“Ideal overnight accomodation in Christchurch”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

Myself and my partner stayed here for one night at the start of our South Island trip. We booked via Wotif and stayed in a 'Super Deluxe Room' which included breakfast. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and the room was great. Its smack in the middle of everything located just near the botanic gardens. Although there is not much to do and see in Christchurch, i would stay here again if we were to return. The cooked mediterranean was great too.

Pro's: Great location. Great breakfast. Close to Botanical Gardens. Convenient parking.
Cons': Room a bit small and dark. A bit overpriced for total package.

We enjoyed our stay, but the owner was a bit curt and distant, but was very polite, and the breakfast was delightful.

My wife and I recently stayed at this property. We had a very relaxing and were very pleased with the level of personal service that we received from the owner, Peter. This property is very clean and centrally located. Peter prepared a very interesting mix of food for breakfast that included, salmon, thin crust Italian pizza and a wide range of cheeses, cereals fruits and breads - something different. The hotel is located half a block from the museum and botanical garden. The hotel also has free parking and wifi. Overall we had a very favorable experience.

The Classic Villa is an odd mixture. Really an upmarket B & B in a very quiet street. We had a superior room with two 4' beds, a desk, two chairs, tv. There was a good shower but the towels have seen better days and the loo roll was flimsy!! These are petty problems of course but we were surprised you had to pay for a newspaper in a room costing $389 a night ! Free wi-fi luckily. Breakfast was laid around us, as we finished ours, for the next day, and the owner was busy washing up at the sink. Lovely fruit and muesli etc. but poor quality, cold croissants. Shame they couldn't do the ones you finish off yourself in the oven & should be warm. Cooked breakfast is another $18.

Peter, the owner, is very helpful re any tours and restaurants etc. and it is great to be close to the museum, botanical gardens and the bus tours.

The big drawback with our room (eleven) was the heat from the afternoon sun. No air-con or fan provided and as they are cheap as chips in Bunnings, one of those wouldn't go amiss. Lovely and cosy in the winter with underfloor heating but would be dreadful on a hot summer day.

It is great to sit at a communal table (for ten) in the breakfast room and meet other guests. This must be particularly helpful for overseas people. One morning a businessman played the piano very professionally which was superb. In the evening, the owner is sprawled in his armchair in shorts which is unusual !

I think if you are travelling from overseas or on business, you would enjoy the relaxed experience and chance to meet fellow travellers rather than staying in an impersonal hotel!

A good place to stay but could do better !!!

Room Tip: Room 11 in the winter but take your own fan in the summer !!! It is a good size whereas other rooms...

My wife and I spent 2 nights in Christchurch and stayed at the Classic Villa in a deluxe room. The classic villa is a wonderful B&B. The room wasn't huge, but was wonderful and very clean. Peter, the host is very helpful. breakfast is very good. The villa is very well located.

This is a lovely b and b near the Botanical Gardens in Christchurch. It is in an old mansion, and the room we stayed in couldn't have been nicer. The manager (sorry, can't remember her name) is very welcoming and knowledgeable. We were only there one night, but if you are there longer, it would be a very comfortable place to be for a length of time. I don't know about the value, as it was part of a package of accommodations for us.

The Classic Villa offers everything that is good about the 'boutique hotel' concept. It's small enough to offer real personal touches, in terms of service. Peter looked after us so well, making coffee to suit our respective tastes, offering advice for dining locally, and generally keeping things on a very even keel. Christchurch has been through so much over the past three years, it's reassuring to find positivity and good humour in spades! I was unwell one night of our stay, and Peter showed real concern. The hotel offers free wifi, and lots of lovely hot water, tasteful toiletries, a comfortable bed, and good storage space. The location of The Classic Villa couldn't be better, it's a short stroll to Cathedral Square. Thanks Peter, from us both.

Room Tip: We had Room 10. The only problem is that it is directly above the doorway, so we not only heard the...
