We were lucky enough to happen upon Clearview quite by chance on the last night of a driving holiday in NZ. Although we had pre booked all our other accommodation we decided to take a chance and find somewhere in Christchurch once we arrived. This I would warn is not the best idea due to the ongoing rebuilding of the city. Accommodation is still in short supply, unlike all the other areas of the South Island that seem to have vacancy's even in high season. We were traveling as family of five in a large camper van and I have to say I was a bit embarrassed driving into Clearview lodge with its neatly manicured hedges and lawns and wondered what sort of reaction we might get.....Well, the owners couldn't have been more helpful. Luckily they had room for us all that night and we where made to feel more than welcome. There are lots of special little touches which I won 't list but just to say this was a memorable place to end our holiday and would stay here again when we next visit Chrischuch.

My husband and I booked this place as the last night of our trip to NZ South Island. We visited a few nice B&B before but Clearview is now on the top of the list. There are many great things we can say about our experience, but it all sums up to beautfiul property and great hosts. They have a 10-acre garden/orchard/vineyard which was very lovely. The room we stayed in was huge, clean, and comfortable. However, what touched us the most was their hospitality. Per our request, Sue gave us a tour of her garden/orchard/vineyard after we arrived, she shared lots of great stories and experience with us and was extremely generous of allowing us to pick/taste whatever fruits (the ripe ones of course) we want. She then took us inside and shared their own wine and bread dip with us, both of which were delicious. An hour went by before we knew it and we felt we were simply one of their friends. Since we were there on Dec 31 and had to fly out pretty early on Jan 1, we asked whether it was possible to have breakfast at 730am on Jan 1 (while the other guests were planning to have theirs around 830/9am). I felt bad of asking them to get up so early on Jan 1 to make breakfast for us but sure enough, they had no problem with that. Next morning we were treated with freshly picked fruits, hoem-made jam, freshly made eggs/mushroom/bacon, you name it all! It was one of the best breakfasts we had on our trip and both Sue and Robin sat down and chatted with us after preparing our breakfast. We were so touched by their friendliness which extends to Jan 1 early morning! Before this review gets too long, just want to take this opportunity to thank both of them of giving us a great stay on New Year Eve and a great start of 2013! Hope to see you again.

staying at clearview lodge is less of a b&b experience and more of a gracious visit to your very good friends' estate where they have created a marvelous life around their vineyard, their orchards, their gardens and the neighborhood golf course (which just happens to be the venue for the nz open again this year). we were lucky enough to have been booked in to clearview for a few nights during our visit to the christchurch area. we played the clear water course and thoroughly enjoyed the round. driving back down the road to the lodge we entered another world. pulling through the beautiful iron gates we were on the estate grounds. wow. this place must be a lot of work. you'd never know it from the carefree charm with which sue and robin showed us around. i was impressed with the size of the place. the house is huge. the rooms are spacious and filled with light and air and afford delightful views of the garden and the orchards.
when we arrived i was tired and getting over an allergy attack. sue had just the right tea at hand and quickly sliced up her just-frosted chocolate cake. we all sat around the table and visited for quite a while. in fact another nice couple arrived during our tea, so they folded into the group with their chocolate cake and tea and we all sat and got to know each other. it was just the sort of small, friendly, convivial interlude one hopes for when we travel to foreign lands. wow.
breakfast the next morning was a real feast. robin worked the stove and turned out all sorts of wonderful egg dishes with all the fixings. sue saw to the breads and drinks and served up a guidebook-full of local information for our day's exploration.
everything at the lodge was pleasing, well-planned, immaculate, and just the thing. for example, one night we stayed in and sue and robin fixed us a lovely platter of their bread, olive oil, and snacks and set us up with the golf tournament playing on the large tv in the upstairs lounge. we caught up on email (great wifi) and watched the golf drinking the bottle of their wine they'd left for us. after a long cold wet day of exploring, this was just perfect. the hospitality just can't be overstated. we hope to see christchurch rise again from the heaps of rubble we saw on our tour. we know when we do, we'll be staying with sue and robin at their gorgeous home. don't miss this place.

Met all expectations from time of booking to time of leaving. Sue and Robin are perfect hosts and our first B&B (ever!) was a wonderful experience. It was a lot more expensive than some hotels we've stayed at but we've never stayed anywhere where they welcome you with a glass of their own brewed Pinot Noir and offer transport to the local restaurant for dinner. When we got back to the B&B after dinner we were offered a glass of their own port and it is a very good port! The room was comfortable with all the facilities needed, including chilled water - the only downside was the quilt was too thick so we had to get a blanket our of the cupboard to put over the sheet. Breakfast was excellent and it was nice to sit down with your hosts and the other guests. Sue even arranged for a local taxi driver to take us for a tour of Christchurch on the way to the airport.

Room Tip: Only 3 rooms and I have no dounbt they're all excellent.
