The B&B makes me comfortable, like visiting friend's home. Miss Vivienne is very Friendly, and I could relax like visiting my friends. If you speak no English,it may difficult to communicate with her. But, it is no problem, if you can speak some (bit?) English or learning English. She speaks gently and slow pace. There are new bathroom and it had cleaning up.sophisticated bedroom and garden.it makes me dream "I'd like to live the home like this!" You can choice 2 types of breakfast. If you ask Vivienne, you may use wireless internet connection.I'd like to stay again.

Thank Ykoura

We had a wonderful 3 nights stay in a really perfect B&B. Our room was upstairs with a separated bathroom. We felt as we are at home and we slept like at home! The breakfast was grandious, the best we had on our whole trip in New Zealand. Our host Vivienne welcomes us with a cup of coffee at her lovely terrace, which we could also used on our own. Vivienne was really extraordinary kind and helpful with everything.
The distance to the city of Christchurch is only 5 min by car and as the origin to start a trip to the Banks Peninsula (Akaroa harbour and also to Littleton harbour) the 40 Thornycroft B&B is good located.

Vivienne offered perhaps the most warmest and homely stay in our 5 weeks trip down under. Her home was our home and we had some lovely interesting conversations which really gave us a true insight into NZ, country and people . Breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious. Location as detailed on website is equi distance between airport and centre of town both being a easy bus/taxi journey .

We have stayed at 40, Thorneycroft before and have always enjoyed it so much. Viv has lovely rooms and sitting and breakfast area. The location is close to the centre (too far to walk) but very quiet and safe. a highlight for us has always been Viv's muesli - she should patent it!

Spent 2 nights with another couple at 40 Thorncroft Street B&B in November 2009. When we arrived 1st impressions were good; lovely property that is very well maintained both inside & out. Rooms were wonderful with every possible 'base' covered. The beds were of high quality & very comfortable & the bathroom had all the right inclusions & was spotlessly clean. Our breakfasts were great; healthy, wholesome & most adequate servings with mostly all fresh ingredients prepared on the morning. However this B&B's real charm lay with it's host Vivienne who is so genuinely friendly, super helpful, quite worldly & treated us all with kindness & empathy. Vivienne & I are worlds apart in upbringing, me being from the lower end of the scale however we all liaised well & her conversation is bright & interesting. Being raised on Banks Peninsular she has wonderful knowledge of the area & region. Although a little above our allocated daily accommodation budget we were most impressed & would recommend this property to anyone seeking an establishment that epitomizes the true spirit of 'the B&B Concept'. Up there in the top 5% of establishments we have stayed in.

I thoroughly enjoyed my overnight stay at 40 Thornycroft. The bed (upstairs room) was sublimely comfortable, and the room incredibly quiet and peaceful so had a great sleep.
Vivian (hostess) was incredibly kind, and helpful with directions and altogether made my stay a very pleasant one.The breakfast was was very well presented and delicious.
I totally recommend this as a great place to stay with a wonderful atmosphere and superb hostess. I'll definitely return when in Christchurch again.

My husband and i spent the first night of our honeymoon with Vivienne at 40 Thornycroft and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome or at ease.
Our room was large, comfortable, spotless and there were robes in the wardrobe if we had needed them. Our bathroom was modern and spotless. We even had access to tea and coffee making facilities. An added bonus is that the room was at ground floor level which was a great help with heavy cases!
From our arrival we sat and chatted with Vivienne over a bottle of local wine and some nibbles, what a fantastic welcome from a gracious host.
For dinner we were a short 10 minute walk from 3 local restaurants and some shops.
Breakfast was wonderful and plentiful, again Vivienne was helpful and cordial.
There is complimentary wi-fi which we found to be very unusual in New Zealand, so that was a bonus.
I would highly recommend 40 Thornycroft, you will not be disappointed that is for sure!
