This hotel is pretty well what you expect from an Ibis. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable, the breakfast absolutely fine. The exceptional thing about the hotel is that it is one of the few buildings functioning normally in the middle of a city devastated by an earthquake, and the thing that really made the hotel is that the staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient (even in the middle of the night for those with jetlag).

Stayed here for a night. Check in was fast. Strong wifi with only 30 mins free at lobby. With computers as well. Basic amenities. Strong water pressure with warm water. Heater works extremely well. Beds were comfy. I slept soundly. Breakfast were fine, with basic range.

We had no other choice, there were still no other hotels open in the city after the earthquake. The Ibis is very central - just across from the re:START Mall. The staff were terrific - very helpful and friendly. If I had other choices though I would not stay at this hotel again. The room was very small but had two (we couldn't decide if they were small queens or large doubles) beds squashed into it. We are a married couple and do still sleep in the same bed so only required one bed! However, it became clear what the other bed was for - somewhere to put everything! There is nowhere else to put anything - a very tiny shelf was under the window and that was it. So, everything was spread all over the other bed. The bathroom was TINY!! But, we did survive in the sad broken city.

Room Tip: At least have a view towards the re:START Mall.

Dear Kezza49_11,

Thank you for sharing your comments with us. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback.

I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and were well looked after by our terrific staff. They are indeed an asset and a vital part of our success.

At Ibis Christchurch, we certainly do have rooms available with 1 king bed and I am certain you will find these rooms to be more to your liking. While booking with us this option is easily available and does ensure you are allocated a room with a king bed, thus providing more space in our rooms.

Thank you once again for sharing your comments with us. I do hope to be able to welcome you back to Ibis Christchurch in the near future.

I stayed here for one night while in CHCH for a conference. The room was comfortable but needed more pillow choice. It was surreal to be staying in the centre of this city that is so destroyed. It felt encouraging to be in the first hotel to be totally new in comfortable surroundings with very pleasant staff.

I stayed here for 4 nights, had no trouble with anything & enjoyed my stay here.
The staff at reception were fantastic & always very helpful, even when it came to sightseeing & places to eat. My room was great & was cleaned/made up every day & if you have the do not disturb sign on your door, they leave you a bag with everything you need in your room!
The breakfast was fairly average, even for buffet but the free computers & wifi in the lobby made up for that!!
The hotel itself isn't in the greatest spot at the moment, as about 90% of area around it is still blocked off for construction & demolition from the earthquake damage. There is the ReStart shopping mall directly across the street which is fun & funky but i didn't do alot of shopping there as it was mainly name brand stores.

Dear kels_0892,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience during your stay with us at Ibis Christchurch. I am very pleased to know that you were well looked after by our friendly staff and found our hotel to be "no trouble with anything".

While we are in the heart of the CBD in midst of all the earthquake damage and rebuilding work, I am glad you were able to enjoy a pleasant stay with us and make avail of the excellent re-start mall just opposite the hotel. We certainly do have great vantage point of all the action christchruch centre city has to offer.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Ibis in Christchurch from May 19th to May 22nd 2013. It was a really good stay. My room was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfortable (I had the king size which is two mattresses joined together, works fine, barely a seam where they join, didn't make a bit of difference to my sleep). The restaurant staff on Level One are fantastic. I'd like to single them out in particular. The food is good, and when I needed a very fast lunch it was brought to me with no fuss, piping hot fish and chips that were very nice indeed. The staff were all very friendly and helpful which is really nice dealing as they do with people all day, it can get hard to keep up a smile, but they do, and genuinely so. My room on the 6th floor had a good view over the Restart Mall, it was very quiet, the room's heating and air con worked well and it was clean and well presented. I recommend the Ibis with no hesitation and commend the staff and the hotel for keeping up such a fantastic level of service with all the building going on around them.

Room Tip: The upper floor rooms have good views. The only caveat I would have is that this could not be clas...

Dear aman2012,

Thank you for sharing your comments regaring your recent stay here at Ibis Christchurch. It is always a pleasure to receive your feedback.

Christchurch is currently re-building from the devastating earthquake in Feb 2011 and as you correctly mentioned, we are one of the few hotels left in centre city. Your support and loyalty is very much appreciated as we aim to rebuild our broken city.

It is our hope to be able to welcome you back to Christchurch and Ibis in the near future.
