“Return of the great hotel shower”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2013 via mobile

While it is probably a first world problem, many hotel showers aren't what they used to be in the pressure stakes. Not so at the Ibis Christchurch where the water pressure was superb. Thank you, Ibis.

Aside from the shower all was as you would expect from an Ibis hotel - things done simply and well. We didn't dine at the hotel but colleagues who did were very positive about their experience.

Now, when this hotel has more neighbours in the form of retail and entertainment optipns Ibis Christchurch will be in the heart of things. Roll on the rebuild.

Dear boofhead3,

Thank you for your very positive review of the Ibis and for your comments about our staff. Thank you for supporting our city as we recover from the major earthquake of 2011. As you say "roll on the rebuild" and we hope to be able to welcome you back again in the future.
Kind regards

Just had one night at the Ibis. Yes it is central, but sadly at the moment with so much devistation in the city, it is not an advantage. All staff were pleasant. The room is tiny, particulalry when they jamb in two double beds. Bathroom, must be a new record for smallness. All was clean and neat. Had dinner in their restaurant, maybe I had a bad selection, but it don't think it is hard to cook Tortellini with a tomato sauce, but the pasta was undercooked and tough and $25 for a medium serve !!!
Breakfast ok, not a big selection.
They advertise Free WIFI, but this is only if you sit in the foyer and only for 30mins, otherwise $15 for 2 hours.
Won't go back again.

Dear PierroSydney,

Thank you for your review and for taking the time to see that Christchurch is in the rebuilding phase following the earthquake of 2011. Our location being so central is going to improve each month as new attractions and services open up again and this is exciting. The Ibis is part of a worldwide chain and as such we very much have a formula for the size of our rooms and compact bathrooms that are well equipped. We do offer 30 minutes free wifi in our public areas which include the lobby and bar and restaurant. I apologise if the meal wasnt to your liking. It was pleasing to see that you thought our staff were pleasant and the service was good.

This hotel present pretty well for a hotel of its standing but I came back to my room after a day out to find that my make up bottle had been dropped, broken and then placed back together and left on the counter. When I picked it up, I noticed it was broken. Accidents happen and I don't mind that, but I would have preferred for the staff to be upfront with me about the damage to my things.

Dear Michelle T,

Thank you for your review and it was pleasing to see that you rated us highly for location and sleep quality. We apologise if our housekeeping staff damaged your make up bottle while cleaning your room. I spoke to the housekeeper and while she does not recall breaking anything in the room she unreservedly apologises if this did happen. Our staff do take this responsibility seriously so it is a timely reminder to all to take more care in the future. We trust that the rest of your stay was enjoyable.
Sincerely

We had a standard king bedded room that was very clean and fresh looking. The bed was very comfortable and the towels quite thick and fluffy. Again, my main complaint with Ibis is the lack of at least one comfortable chair of any type. This room seemed a bit bigger than some and had a place to put your suitcase close to the door into the room. Lots of coffee and tea which was nice as it was rainy and cool while we were in Christchurch. They also have connecting rooms. Easy to do a river walk from this hotel plus the Botanic Gardens were also close by. The Container Mall was across the street ( there is a post office in this mall) and another ( New?) mall a bit farther on that had a food court and a grocery store. A bit of a taxi drive to the airport and the train station but this is outweighed by it's proximity to other things. Staff was very helpful to us. We are used to free internet in North America, but we found that that was unusual to find in New Zealand and Australia. Would recommend this hotel to any visitor to Christchurch.

Useful location for central, gardens, Ballantynes, Container mall, but the hotel is only average. Room small but clean and all I needed. It would be cramped with 2 in the space. No free wi-fi in the room which annoys me in any hotel now. Staff were helpful but only one person on when we checked out, at the same time as a large tour group. There's not a lot of choice in what used to be the centre of town and I was happy to be supporting the local economy.

Room Tip: Check out if any others have free wi-fi, if that is important to you

Progress is being made on the rebuild and Christchurch will be an exciting city to visit in the future. Our location is very close to the shopping and attractions and every week there are new new projects being announced or facilities opening. Once again thank you for staying and we hope to see you again in the future.

Room was little small compared to other hotels, it facilitated one of the old generation (Small) TVs in room, Bathroom was comparatively small.
More or less it made us felt like they made a room out of small backpacker.
Room service and staffs were average.

This hotel is in the midst of the devastation the hit Christchurch over the past few years. It was re-opened in 12/2012, and boasts an excellent bar and restaurant. There is a 24/7 food kitchen which is wonderful and a bar/cafe open until 10:30 each night. Add an excellent array of local wines and beers and you have an automatic winner. WIFI is a bit pricey, but there are plenty of other local options available. Nice, clean, comfortable rooms added to the pleasant stay. Plus, very close to the river and all of the river activities. ( you MUST go 'punting' on the Christchurch Avon river at least once!)

Dear roystotts,
Thank you for your very positive review and in particular about our restaurant and bar. I must agree with your comments about the "must do" for the punting on the Avon river. This is a very easy walk from the hotel and is a really excellent attraction.
