“What you would expect from a slightly up market pub meal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2013

It is what is says - a pub with a bistro.
Meal sizes are big, though nothing amazing.
Maybe Christchurch is just expensive, but these prices seemed more than I thought reasonable.
As expected they did have a good choice of beers.
Service was a bit slow too - despite the place being 75% empty.

“Good atmosphere, service and food-meal deals.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

If you are staying on Bealey Avenue, this is the place to go. Went here for drinks / meals three times during our stay, one of which was St, Patrick's Day. Large traditional pub sitting area and two separate dining rooms inside. The outdoor patio area permits smoking.

Found the food and service to be very good. there are daily drink and meal deals, as well as other on-going specials.

We are planning to go back to Christchurch someday and will visit here again.

“Surprising find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

The first night we went for dinner mostly out of necessity and lack of energy to try and find anything else.

It was amazing. Some of the absolute best food we had while in New Zealand.I had the lamb roast with pumpkin, mash and bacon wrapped green beans. Everything was fresh and tasted wonderful. My husband is severely allergic to wheat and was able to have cider and steak. Everything was really outstanding and I wish we had one in the states.

We went back the next night, and the crusted fish was delicious. I haven't had better fried fish, and I I live in the south of the US.

Highly recommended.

I'm allergic to wheat, but we loved it so much, and the food and staff were so good, we ate here two nights in Christchurch. Highly recommend.

“Really enjoyed the steak and a Speights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

Went about 6.30, bit empty but was packed after 7pm. Enjoyed a 250 gram steak, was excellent and Speights was good but not as cloudy as I remember it from Dunedin years ago
