Doesn't matter what you order the sauce is suspiciously out of a can and not good, tastes like watties spagetty.
The veal masala sauce was very sweet, odd taste,
Nice location but I wouldn't like to eat there again.

Our last night out in Christchurch after a wonderful stay and gorgeous meals at Hanmer Springs & Wellington. We are travellers from Australia which has a rich Italian heritage and foods which are common there seem to be limited in availability and quality in NZ. Australia too has its fair share of mediocre Italian, but I believe this restaurant has aced the prize for blandness and bizarre combinations of flavours unprecedented in Italian cooking. A seafood marinara pasta consisted of its main sauce of bland mass produced tomato sauce with bacon. Likewise a sea scallop risotto, generously drowned with the same bland sauce with bacon. Our main meals were accompanied with both cooked vegetables and a limp clump of mixed green leaves salad without dressing. Our entree of choice of dipping oil & balsamic vinegar was ordered & we were promptly told that we had to separately order the necessary pizza bread to consume the dipping oil with each separately charged at exorbitant prices. The entire menu lack originality, flavour & appears to suffer from a confused cuisine identity in its content. The restaurant is extremely popular, because the service was efficient and attentive, but disappointingly, the food seems to bear little semblance to the glorious Italian origins it claims to be derived from. The restaurant seems to survive on the basis of a extreme lack of Italian food in Christchurch and is seemingly propped up by the ignorance of the populace. After complaints, we were told that the food is derived from Venetian cuisine. Here the word 'derived' being most loosely interpreted. Recommend you avoid unless you suffer from cuisine masochism.
