The Old Vicarage has this great incentive of a free main during the month of your birthday, so my wife and daughter shared this celebration with me. They have a new winter lunch menu which was not quite as comprehensive as the old one, and they have "dollied up" the presentation with fancy plates and "artistic" arrangements of the food. While my daughter and wife had good-sized portions, I was just a little disappointed with my two fish cakes, whose accompaniment was about six or seven little broccoli heads and a number of onion rings, and that was it, apart from the tasty horse-radish sauce on which the fish cakes sat. The service was adequate, though a little on the brusque side. Maybe we caught them on an off-day? It can happen to the best of us!
