Best crinkle cut fries in town. They put special seasoning on it - have no idea what's in it but it's not your average chicken salt seasoning! If you're a fan of aioli get double aioli!
Coffee is very decent. Otherwise food choices somewhat limited.
Vibe is funky, a bit hipster, something a bit different.

Modals is a very cool cafe; while the range of food choice is a little limited (mainly breakies or bagels) it is yummy and the service is great. However, while al that is great and probably better than most it is the style and atmosphere that sets it apart from other nearby cafes.

Look, I'm not one to complain. We travel a little and we understand businesses. All we want is reasonable value, and if there is anything coming within a mile/kilometre of that criteria, then all praise for it. Maybe we hit a bad day, but I would hate to think our experience was a representative sample.

We stayed at a nearby motel, with no proper in room meal making facilities, so what do you do? Look for a nearby cafe, right?

It was about 10:00 am (we had to check out by then) when we arrived. We ordered a latte and an English breakfast tea. These were duly delivered after a very short wait (the tea served in quaint (that's a nice "quaint") op shop recovered cup and saucer). We also ordered a toast. Yep - three pieces of bread, lightly toasted with some jam.

THIRTY minutes later, including at least two inquiries as to how the toast was coming along, they delivered the toast. Now forgive me, I'm no connoisseur or some bon vivant foodie nouveau with intense knowledge and wisdom about running kitchens, but toast is not overly difficult, I'm sure. Jam is reasonably available. If it's not, a discrete "I'm sorry, that is not on the menu today" (how often do you encounter that one?) would suffice, surely. No such process at Modaks.

So sorry, as much as I like to support local businesses as opposed to chains, these guys didn't cut the mustard with us. Try them at your peril. They have a lovely funky/hip/cool vibe there - some Formica tables, wooden chairs, great music (great speakers), but hey, their core business is food and drink.

A word of advice. It's a competitive market out there. Ignore your customers at your own peril. I really wish them well and turn this around.
