“Old villa with big room”
Reviewed 17 March 2011

Good location closed to the center. Try to stay in the old villa. We had a very big room on the second floor. Even the house and the room are not very new, it has really its own charm. The windows are double glazing. If desired there's a breakfast possible. Parking drectly beside the house. Restaurants and shops are very closed.

Motel rooms are faded but despite the age everything functions. Sound proofing is poor. Front desk tried hard but not very efficient. Poor value for money. Shame the fittings do not live up to the good maintenance.

Stayed two nights in the old motel. Both nights woken by guests above us coming home and stomping around. There is zero sound proofing.

The decor is from the 70's, which is acceptable if it was clean, which it wasn't. The place also had a musty odour.

The shower could not keep a constant temperature, and the toilet when flushed spat water all over the seat / floor.

Location is great, the rest is rubbish. Booked on wotif and was led to believe by the photo that it was the new part of the motel. Gutted when we walked in through the door. Also did not have the correct bedding for our number of guests on the first night. They did refund $20 for this.

Very happy to leave, worst motel of hout two week trip round the south island.

The room was rather small but quaint. The owner, Brian was very friendly and helpful. Also, very concerned that guests get a good night's rest and would ensure that other guests do not disturb with late night noise/drinking etc.

There is a lounge where tea, coffee, hot water are provided together with crockery. The lounge also has a tv, books and magazines.

2nd stop of our 6 weeks Tour.We stayed in the Deluxe Studio's,very good and modern,
clean.En-suite on the small side. Excellent value for the Money. 10 minute walk to town centre. Good eating at 'The Bog' Irish Pub, does not look good outside but Restuarant upstairs.Big steaks etc reasonable prices. Best For us 'Etrusco' Italian ,The Savoy Building around the corner from The Information Centre.. Very busy, Great Italian atmosphere. Best to book ,BYO.

We stayed in the old part of the motel, so can't comment on the new part or the B&B. The room looked like it needed a really good clean (sheets etc were clean) and not been touched since the 70's. The windows at the back were thick with dirt and the TV had poor reception. The bedroom was separate, but tiny - just big enough for the bed and the bathroom, off the bedroom was again very small.

Unfortunately the flats next to our room must have been occupied by students who were having a loud late night party (this of course isn't the fault of the motel, but not great for us!)

On the plus side it had a small cooker with an oven (most motels we stayed on didn't have an oven). However, that is the only positive thing I can say about this place.

This is a quaint old villa with basic amenities. Its just far enough away from town to be nice and quiet but close enough to walk (10 min). The single $40 room was small but comfy. I liked it, but its NOT the place to go if youre looking for a wild time and wanting to meet young backpackers...
