“Eerily Beautiful”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

The history of this beach is somewhat grim but the tunnel is more impressive in light of the time it was built. Other than this it is a beautiful place to visit without a doubt. Best done on a nice day at low tide to make the most of the beach area. Fair level of fitness may be required, the walk down is fine but coming back up is a bit of a climb. Amazing scenery, am planning on visiting again in the summer.

“Take your walking shoes”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Another brilliant place to visit in Dunedin. This place is amazing in that it has managed to escape needing massive barriers to keep you from the edge of the cliffs - but I don't advise getting to close! Stunning scenery and even on a winters day it is amazing with the wild sea bashing up against the cliffs. It is quite a steep walk down and not suitable for people who don't like uneven ground, but whatever you do - don't forget your camera!!!

“Beautiful, stunning, challenging”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

Simply beautiful as NZ always offer us! This is a little known place but offer stunning nature and view.
It is definitely comparable if not better than twelve apostles in melb. The rock formations are so fine cut. Walking around the rock and beach make you feel much closer to the nature.
It is rather exciting to stand near to the edge and look down to the sea and feel the wave (shivering though).
Will visit again during low tide and hopefully can really walk through the tunnel.

“One of the most beautiful places I´ve ever been”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

If you can see just one beach in town, go to Tunnel beach. It´s probably the most amazing place I´ve ever seen, more than worthy to go there and see this unbelievable creation of mother nature. The best view in sunny days. I could go there thousand times and I will be always fascinated by it´s powerful look.

“A locals secret...”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Dunedin being my home town, Tunnel Beach was a place I was lucky to visit since my early childhood. In those days there were no fences and it was just a case of getting the farmers permission to cross his land, making sure gates were closed etc.
Anyway... for along time Tunnel Beach was a place only the locals really knew about, and has some fantastic history, which I'm sure you have researched.
Lately it seems it is now on the beaten tourist track, however it is a place that you could easily find that you are the only one there, which is an amazing place to just feel the beautiful energy and the majestic Pacific Ocean crashing against the looming cliffs and sand.
I have shown many travelers this hidden gem, and they have all been taken by its beauty and very happy to have had the treat of visiting.
It's not a hard climb.. unless you are unfit. but still doable regardless ( you'll sleep well )
