“Comfortable house on the edge of town”
Reviewed 25 February 2013 via mobile

Located on the northern edge of town, with a pleasant country outlook but just a few minutes drive to the city centre. Friendly Kiwi couple running this lifestyle block. Modern house, comfy room and huge bathroom. Basic but entirely adequate breakfast - what you might fix yourself at home - cereals, toast, fruit salad etc. A nice change from fully occupied motels. Quiet and restful.

I found the description of this B and B throughly misleading ....I don't know when these photos were taken but they certainly do'nt represent where I stayed.....The website does'nt mention the steep unmade track that needs to be used to access what is a 'lifestyle' property It might be 40 acres but is set in the heart of a residential area....All be it that the owners were very pleasant people the B & B was untidy and ill kempt and the kitchen chaotic. The views from the bedrooms had completely dissappeared through the over grown unkempt garden and the view from the bedroom I had was off a washing line complete with bedlinen. The spa bath was dirty and not fit for purpose and the tapestry type duvet cover that was used on the bed in the King room smelt... And this was the only accomodationin New Zealand where I had to make my own bed !

Room Tip: A difficult one...as we were totally mislead by the B & B 's own website

We stayed for two days. The house is nice and it is well located if you have a car. Close to town but removed on a hill with animals. Overall the place was nice but it was not the most welcoming. It felt like we were bothersome when we asked for something like toast at breakfast or had questions. We also had been told that there was a main room where we could sit since our toddler goes to bed much earlier than we do but it was an open and mostly empty room that was clearly not meant for that. The animals were nice but they are removed and not as much a part of the experience as other B&B farms on which we stayed during our time in NZ. If all you want is a clean place to stay, with an unimpressive breakfast, and good location, Liethview is fine but if you want service and comfort, I would recommend trying another place.

A great easy going place to stay. It's great to stay on a small farm and enjoy some of the produce at breakfast. The location is beautiful and handy to the city and the hosts are wonderful. We had stayed mostly in hotels for the week but the two nights here were by far the best.

Room Tip: The middle of the three rooms has a spare and is close to the front door.

Leithview is everything you'd want in a B&B in Dunedin. We were initially just looking for a place to sleep but found Leithview and decided it looked amazing. It's super close to town but located on a 40-acre working farm so you feel like you're in the countryside! At the last minute we took our dog but that wasn't a problem for the owners, who have working sheepdogs of their own. The room is immaculate and beautifully decorated. The bed was super comfortable and had electric blankets to help increase comfort considering it was winter in Dunedin! It's small but had more than enough space for us. The spa bath advertised is a very generous size and works well. The breakfast the next morning was simple but delicious and included fresh cows milk from the farm. The owners are very friendly but not nosy. Overall it was a wonderful stay and we have already recommended it to our friends.

Room Tip: Don't know about the others but the room with the spa bath was excellent.

This was the only farmstay we booked in our entire NZ trip and we have no regrets. We missed the entrance to the property in the first instance and later found it. As you drive up the hill you start falling in love with this place. We had booked all the 3 rooms availiable and Peter even managed to spare a small additional room for a kid .
We had our cars and it is a 10 minute drive to the city. The rooms are tastefully done and we had a great time having breakfast prepared by Peter and chatting with his parrot in the dining area. My kids absolutely fell in love with the place , the cats and the parrot. We were impressed with Peter's paintings. Unfortunately it rained the day we were and we could not visit the farm.
I would highly recommend this place for anyone planning a visit to Dunedin as long as you have a car.

Finding the entrance to Leithview Homestay can be a bit daunting without a GPS but the reward is certainly worth it. After landing in Dunedin on the busiest weekend of the year (Univ of Otago opening + the annual South Island Scottish piper band competion) it was particularly refreshing to arrive at this quaint country setting in the Leith River valley. Yet we could be back in town or at the university in about 5 minutes. Being a small farm further added to the relaxing feeling - - just watch for chickens as you drive in! Peter and Marja clearly love where they live and their enthusiasm was apparent in their gracious hospitality. Peter generously provided valuable guidance for our onward trip to Omarama, and Marja shared her delicious "estate" cheese. We only wish the wet weather would have held off longer to really enjoy this enchanting natural setting!

Room Tip: The only change we would make on a future visit would be to stay in one of the slightly larger two r...
