“Cold but comfortable at the right price”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

I booked this motel using lastminute.com for around $70 per night.
The place was quiet and the manager upgraded us from a studio to the one bedroom apartment at no extra cost. She was helpful when we asked for recommendations for dinner and provided us with a map.
The apartment is old but adequate. We were provided with a heater which we set up in the main lounge/kitchen area and it quickly warmed the room.
As there were 2 single beds in the lounge (a double and single were also in the main bedroom) we opted to sleep in the lounge as it was warm. The bedroom was freezing and it seemed a waste to set up another heater in that room too.
The bathroom was old (we discovered the toilet leaked) but the shower was hot and towels clean.
The beds were comfortable and we spent the evening watching the large TV on the wall in the lounge room.
Definitely not a 5 star hotel, so dont expect the Hilton by any means. I would rate this place as a 2 star, but we enjoyed our stay as the apartment had everything that we required on a budget.

Room Tip: The one bedroom apartments have more room than the studios. However we opted to sleep in the single...

Stayed there for a few days with family. The place is clean and tidy but some of the furniture and fittings are a bit tired. Seems like they are upgrading in bits and pieces. The Sony LCD TV was quite new and was in stark contrast to the other furniture. The bathroom vanity still has the old dreaded 2-tap (hot tap, cold tap) system. But the kitchen sink has a hot/cold mixer.
Safe little "playground" in the middle for families. Surprisingly quiet, considering there is a large road directly in front, and another directly behind. Occasional road noise but hardly noticed it, even though I'm quite fussy about road noise. So a good night's sleep was never a problem.
Good value for money, if you don't mind older furnishings so long as it's reasonably clean. But if you must have shiny and new, this is not the place. You will need to have transport. It's an easy 5-minute drive to the city centre. Hosts are good. Free internet provided (with limited data cap, much more than you'll need to check email and browse news).

We, family of four, visited Dunedin last year during Christmas time. Compare the others it offered the best rates for accommodation. It is not a modem motel. But it got all the essential services it should have. Surprising us is, in a city like Dunedin, every property is very compacted, small bedroom, narrow driveway etc... Bayfield Motel offered us their costumer and their kid’s big outdoor space and kid’s activity area to enjoy this New Zealand far south small city's fresh air and a piece of peace beside the city centre.

Room Tip: The room just a kind of temperrily box, take care of the space.

Came down to see a mate in Dunedin and stayed here during the mid-semester break, the hosts made everything easy. Room was tidy and the rates were really nice. It was convenient to the dairy and not far from town, and taking a bus was simply a matter of walking outside.

We stayed three nights here but unfortunately the place is very old and in need of some urgent maintenance and upgrades. Our first room (studio) smelt very musty and had a small water leak on the floor which the owners tried to dry out for us. The next morning we found the cause, the hot water system in the wardrobe was leaking water everywhere and the carpet was fully saturated! To her credit, owner Jenny moved us to another room and offered to refund some of our cost due to water leaks. The new room was clean and comfortable but had limited utilities (no power point in the bathroom), beds were old and supported by wood under the mattress. The only positives were the close location to the City Centre and the daily rates.

Room Tip: Get one that is not in the shade all day!

Good price, old fashioned units, basic but good value. Great play area for the kids, a bit out of town, but meant it was a bit quieter. Friendly staff.
