My rating for the room is 3 star.
No bath, no air conditioning, no safe.
Wifi six dollars for 25 minutes.
The evening buffet was quite good, and was preceded by the haggis ceremony, which was very good and funny.

We stayed at the Mercure Leisure Lodge in February on quite a hot day and it was unbearable. The room had sliding doors with the sun streaming in and entering the room was similar to entering a sauna, it was swelteringly hot and there was no air conditioning. We couldn't stay in the room and had to go and sit out in the garden to cool down. We asked to change rooms but were told the hotel was full. The room itself might have been alright had it been cool, but the hotel is a long way from the centre of Dunedin and not ideally situated. The one saving grace was the food in the restaurant which was very good, although the service was slow. The layout for the breakfast buffet was terrible and nobody could reach what they needed.

Our booking for this hotel was pretty much last-minute, and its motel appearance concerned me. However, we needn't have worried, as it's entirely up to Mercure standards, and any architectural features are merely inherited from the surroundings. The hotel is spacious, the garden it's centred around is just gorgeous, while our standard room had ample space for a 3-star property (the same goes for the bathroom). The staff was fairly polite, if somewhat invisible. The only thing gone awry was the lack of housekeeping, for no obvious reason, but our 2-night stay was too short to go and complain about it. The botanic garden is a stone's throw away, while the town centre remains at a convenient distance even for walking, so it's a win-win. All things considered, it's a good value hotel with boutique qualities to it, even if the prices are a bit on the steep side.

There is no air conditioning and our room was uncomfortably hot after a sunny day. Reception provided a fan which was only a partial solution.

The hotel is located a long way out of the town centre.

Service at dinner was slow with insufficient staff to cope with the coach parties.

We booked this hotel at the last minute on a sudden impulse to travel to Dunedin. Upon arrival, the girl at reception, Gemma, was really friendly, directing us to a nearby place for dinner and chatting with us. The room was lovely, clean and spacious. We hadn't expected this great standard for what we paid. The location is close to the city but not so close that there are too many students around. We would stay here again.

A poor choice for business travel. Seems to be a major stomping ground for bus tours and school trips. Breakfast had massive queues to eat cooling, rubbery eggs. All the best seats in the breakfast room were reserved for the bus tours. In the evening, the bar and restaurant seemed to open and close in a very narrow window.

Wifi was very expensive and very slow, and only available in the lobby.

On the positive side, my room was large, clean and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful.

Possibly the place is wonderful if you're on a bus tour, but if you're traveling for business, I suggest staying somewhere else.

Leisure Lodge is well positioned on a major road but still quiet. Being across the road from the Botanical Gardens is a real plus. The staff were very helpful and the option of enjoying a quiet drink in the gardens was pleasant.
