“Comfortable Mecure in Dunedin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2013

Large room, comfortable bed, guest laundry. Reasonably close, by car, to the centre of the city and markets etc. Close to Hell Pizza Bar though suggest walk there as there seems to be little on street parking in the student areas of Dunedin

We spent 3 nights at the Mercure Leisure Lodge in Dunedin. The room was very comfortable with a kitchenette that included a microwave, toaster, tea, coffee facitities, etc. It also had 2 small bar fridges which we felt were a bit of a draw back. A medium size fridge with freezer capable of keeping icecream and ice frozen would have come in handy, although we were able to obtain ice from the bar. Once again, as with most of our stays in NZ, we found that the room got quite stuffy at night so we resorted to leaving the window open.
This wasn't a problem as the weather was cool while we were there, but feel we would be pretty uncomfortable if staying during summer.
We ate one meal in the restaurant which was very nice and found the staff to be helpful.
Athough not in the city centre, we found the location very convenient as we had a hire car to visit the attractions that we wanted to see.
The only real down side to our stay in Dunedin was the weather at the time, but that can't be helped.

Would recommend to stay at the Mercure Leisure Lodge Dunedin.Great location on the northern end of Dunedin ,quiet wing, clean. Great decor.
Beds great but a shame the room couldn't accommodate bigger beds. Would definite stay again. Handy to local supermarket and restaurants

Love the Mecure. But my wife left a lovely pair of leather [ suede ] boots in room 201 under the suitcase shelf.
She would like them back.
The pressure of water in shower needs attention.

As the eldest has been studying in Dunedin a few years now we have stayed at several hotels. This has become the firm favourite. Free on site parking and only two stories high. I'm not sure how old it is but there are not really any new hotels in Dunedin anyway! It has been refurbished well with totally new bathrooms and double glazing. It is opposite the botanic gardens, there is some traffic noise and a long walk to town as a down side. The staff have been really helpful every time. Comfy bed and pillows, complimentary plunger coffee.

Stayed there again as it was a great price for our family. No frills, the interior of the rooms is just starting to become a bit dated but it was still comfortable and clean so no complaints there. The location is good as it's just a couple minutes walk from "fatty lane" which is a street with all the major takeaway eateries. Car parking was a bit of a let down as we stayed on one side of the property and the only empty parks were on the other side of the complex but if you get there early enough there should be no problem. Value for money wise though it's a no brainer and we are staying there again next week!

Room Tip: Rooms on the left side of the building are quieter as they are further from the main roads.

We were going on train next day to Middlemarch, so lovely clean & peaceful place to stay, great sleep, no traffic noise. Loved the little express breakfast available in mornings. Great outlook on to lawn & gardens.
