Very picturesque. We were fortunate to watch a large cargo ship navigate it's way through the harbour entrance. Some of the residences were most interesting.....a boat turned into a house.....a caravan turned into a castle

“One of our secret beaches”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Every time I go to this beach there is never many people around, we take our little dogs and they just love it too. I suggest you walk right along to the end of the beach where the sand dunes are and you can climb up a bit to find a really comfy, restful, private spot. A guy has his caravan café there so coffee on the beach - great!

“Best safe swimming”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Famous for all the wrong reasons, Aramoana is a secluded beachside settlement but has arguably the best beaches in Otago. Usually free of tidal rips, swimming is relatively safe and a good day, surf can be excellent.
Be warned though - the water in these latitudes is never warm!

“Eerie place”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

I guess since the senseless massacre. The little settlement is pretty rough, beach & the spit are worth the trip out. The memorial monument for the 1990 shootings could easily be missed by visitors & needs to be sign posted better.
