“Lovely B and B in Dunedin”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We stayed here for just one night at a very good price. This is a lovely big Victorian House with a beautiful staircase leading up to our room. We were greeted by a lovely young woman and her wee daughter and shown to our room; the Africa Room ( zebra wallpaper and African accessories),not luxurious but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was tucked under the roof but very adequate. The room has a TV and a video player but no Sky.
Breakfast is included in the price. Cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit salad and toast, English muffins and crumpets are available along with pots of jam and tea and coffee. A couple of friendly cats joined the guests at breakfast time. A bit like home! A bonus - free off street parking.

Very interesting and charming old building. Town centre is walkable. Staff are helpful and the breakfasts are good with a nice variety. My bathroom was shared but only with one other room. Great value accommodation.

Room Tip: Maybe ask if a self contained room is available.

This was my favorite lodging of my twelve days in New Zealand. It was not the shiniest or the most immaculate, but it was comfortable, charming, and well-situated. It felt the most like home. The host and other guests were amiable and interesting, the breakfast selection was good, the common area was attractive and comfortable, and the cats were a plus.

My husband and I were part of the Slow Spokes group that stayed at The Hulmes Court Bed & Breakfast recently after completing The Otago Rail Trail. After spending five nights on the trail in excellent accommodation it was a disappointment to discover that our tired looking room at Hulmes Court had a very small ensuite, threadbare sheets and towels and duvet cover. Although close to Dunedin city & railway station and a short walk to many restaurants I felt that for the cost of the room it was expensive for what it was, even though it included a continental breakfast.

This is a very old house with lots of character. It also has two resident cats and, being cat lovers, this was a plus for us. All the rooms are different. We had a large room on the ground floor with its own bath and it was spacious and attractive. Our room was next to the kitchen and there was some noise in the morning. Most of the staff were very nice but a couple of them seem distracted, preoccupied or such. Breakfast was okay but they seemed to run out of things like coffee and fruit that weren't always renewed promptly. The Hulmes is conveniently located, being only a stones throw from The Octagon, the center of town. Avoid View St. if your hauling luggage on foot. It is seriously (think San Francisco) steep. Comimg by foot from The Octagon it is easier to use Stuart St, longer but not nearly as steep, turn left on Smith and then another quick left puts you on Tennyson St.
