I've stayed alone at the Kiwis Nest before and this time I stayed with my husband. I enjoyed my stay in 2008 and just as much again this time. The location is great, it's cosy and clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and there are always interesting people to meet and talk to if you want to be social. The facilities are great and though there were road works on the street outside this time, parking was still made available for guests. I'll return to the Kiwis Nest next time I'm in Dunedin and needing a place to stay.

Thank you. Sorry about the roadworks, we have had to endure 8 months of trucks and diggers, after our local Council accidentally cut into a water main, and then tried to fix it ?!?! ( May 2012 ) BUT we now have a brand new road and just in time for Christmas.........Hmmmmmmmmm........... " ya gotta laugh ".. all the best for you and your family over the festive season. Hope to see you again next year.

This hostel is easy to get to- just down George Street from the Octagon, and walkable from the intercity bus stop. It's near the university and city bus stops. I got there in the mid afternoon and had to ring the bell for the office a couple of times before someone came. I got a private room- at a reasonable price- which was small but had a comfy bed, towel, big windows, and warm. The kitchens are a bit weird- there's a small kitchen upstairs with the fridge down the hall and around the corner, with a "full" kitchen outside on the deck. They give you 50mb of internet free per day, but extra internet costs $5 per 50mb.

Thank you for your comments.......we have all the cooking kitchens outside the main house, to keep the cooking smells out.. and the smaller inside ones inside, just for tea, coffee, microwave etc

We really enjoyed our time at Kiwi's Nest. The location is perfect, very closed to the university, and there are two grocery stores nearby. The kitchen on the second floor is awesome. We cooked our breakfasts and dinners there. Stev, the reception man, was so friendly and responsive to our needs. Highly recommend this hostel!

When I called to book the person I dealt with was very unhelpful and rude, despite the fact I was trying to book two rooms for 4 days. I booked anyway because the location was perfect.
On arrival I was pleasantly surprised! The owner was absolutely LOVELY I can't say anything against the owner and her business partner!

We originally booked a dorm room and a single room, shortly after arrival Linda ( I believe the owners name is ) noticed that we were there for a family and university thing so she upgraded us to a much larger more comfortable room.
We loved it, plenty of space, warm and very tidy.
The fact there was some free wifi was a huge bonus as well.

These rooms are super affordable and the management are brilliant! I would highly recommend staying here. Once you get through the silly employee to enter a very relaxing and wonderful environment.
Linda was lovely to talk to, friendly, helpful and attentive to our personal needs.

Stay at the Kiwis Nest and enjoy the super close proximity to the city and the wonderful hospitality!

Room Tip: Explain to the OWNER what you are looking for in a room, not the receptionist, the owner.

Thank you so much for your positive comments on Kiwisnest. Both Lynda and I are devastated that you were treated so badly by one of our staff. Can you please let us know if it was a male or female who you first talked to, so we can try and resolve this appalling situation.

It is very easy to find Kiwis Nest, good location! We stayed in a twin ensuite room and it's clean and comfortable. Our room with fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, tv, towels, shampoo and soap. A clean bathroom for me to have a warm and comfortable shower!
We like their kitchen at the second floor which is individual from main building, but it's cold even with heater inside.
Laundry is located outside the building. There is no hair dryer can be borrow.
3 parkings available for guest, have to act fast ;-)
Yes they provide free wifi of 50mb, not much but it do sufficient for us to check mail, update fb and for some research!
Special thanks to Steve for his helpfulness!

Hi There thanks for your helpful review, yes the outside kitchen is hard to heat in winter, even with double glazing on 3 walls of glass. 1 panel heater is sometimes not enough. In the past we have provide an extra fan heater from the office.
Did have a hairdrier for guests use, along with other extras as well, alarm clocks , phone chargers, adaptors etc , but as we dont charge a deposit, our hairdryer is " missing in action ", will sort....... Regarding Wi Fi , we thought 50mb per person per day on a average room rate of $ 30 per person, was ok...it's certainly not free for us, u should see some of our technical support charges....not to mention the cost of big downloads in the past...Will pass your Kind Regards to Steve... thanks from Kiwisnest..

We arrived, being recommended by the Hogwarts, and were pleasantly surprised with the place. Very well maintained and clean place with an always smiling host. The place is cosy and has a beautiful fireplace which was getting ready for the Christmas season :)

The host, Steve (if we remember correctly), was very warm and really helpful with all our queries. Recommended places to shop and for the better tour options.

We had taken an en-suite room which was well lit. The kitchens were good and clean. This place has a couple of parking spot and we were lucky to get the last one. The place is just a couple of minutes away from the city center, so our car was always parked!

Overall we had a good experience at the place and would definitely recommend it.

After arrived Dunedin at night without any reservation, we walked in to this hotel after checking out surrounding hotel. The room is small but cozy and comfy. The staff also lovely. The kitchen is outside of main building on the 2nd floor, small not so clean. Parking is available but limited.
