“Unclean”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2012

We were delighted with the location however the cleanliness left a lot to be desired, and we also found the check-in Receptionist not overly friendly and also giving us different information to that which we had been emailed.

With the previous occupants leftovers in the fridge, a pair of shoes in the wardrobe and a screwed up beer bottle label on the table the servicing had been done very poorly.

It was apparent that the dusting had not been done in a very long time on the top and screen of both TVs (one had numerous dirty finger marks on the screen surround), on the window ledges and under the fridge and dishwasher we a clear layer visible on all. The white net curtains on close examination had a line on the bottom of the same black grim on the window ledges.

When we complained we were offered a free nights accommodation, parking and breakfast which we declined as this is not somewhere we would want to stay again. We were also questioned about why we didn't raise these issues before we left but decided that these things could not be fixed and we didn't want to engage in this whilst on holiday.

We then wrote to the CEO of The Quest however after meeting with the property owners he informed us that he felt there were no issues.

We chose this hotel mainly due to it's location. We booked a two bedroom unit, which was in fact a one bedroomed unit and an interconnecting studio apartment, which were connected via a small hallway, perfect for my husband & I, plus two teenagers. It was great to have some privacy and two bathrooms. The hotel is a very short walk into the town centre and the Cadbury chocolate factory is just round the corner. It's also close to a couple of supermarkets.
Our room overlooked the back of the police station which provided some interesting viewing. We stayed two nights, the first was very noisey and we were awoken a couple of times, but the second night was fine. The rooms were clean but a bit dreary. The receptionist was very curt and unhelpful.

Two traveling couples chose the property on a brief stop in Dunedin during a protracted drive around the South Island. The two-bedroom unit we found provided a great sleep, privacy and a washing machine!

We had read that the Cadbury chocolate factory tour was fun, and since we arrived at night, we didn't realize that the factory was practically directly across the street from the hotel. Very convenient. The factory tour really was good, by the way.

The humorous bonus is that we discovered the Speight's Brewery tour was only about a 10-minute walk away. The Speight's Alehouse was next to the brewery, and it provided a very good lunch and a fine sampler of beers.

I had assumed that, because the hotel room was quite cheap, this would be an old dingy place with small rooms. But I was pleasantly surprised. The bathroom was huge (just a shower, no bath). The room itself was also fairly spacious and included a little kitchenette. All the furnishings seemed new.
If you're arriving after hours, they'll put your key in a locked box that you can access.

Central location, close to shops and cafes. Friendly staff and excellent studio apatment. Spacious carparking and easy one-way location to find from airport and to get out of town. I will stay again.

I arrived at Quest Dunedin having booked months before on Booking.com. The night I arrived England was playing Georgia in the Rugby World Cup so the town of Dunedin was very busy. Unfortunately there was no record of my booking and the receptionist asked us to wait. After a long wait she told us the Quest was overbooked and did not have the one bed roomed apartment we had requested. This was a blow as the town was so busy. I asked her if she knew any hotel with availability as she said we could have the Studio Apartments as they were still available! I was confused, why did she not tell us this in the first place!
The Quests Studio Apartment was good, it had a king sized bed, kitchen area and bathroom. It was very comfortable and clean and very convenient for the town of Dunedin.

V clean. Quite modern. Next to supermarket. Few minutes to octagon. Opposite cadbury factory! Yum! But noisy with windows open. Not 24 hour reception
So you def need to let them know if you arriving after business hours. Fine for 1 or 2 nights
