You will find that this is a very popular restaurant so recommend that you book. It is a big restaurant and a downside is that it is very noisy and not easy to have a conversation. But it is about the food and the food is good solid Italian fare with large servings. Waiter service is efficient and friendly. A restaurant well worth checking out if you are in town.

This queen's birthday holiday weekend we were in Dunedin looking for a restaurant; they were either completely empty (warning warning) or completely full. After an hour and a half of getting responses like "we can seat you 2 hours" we came across this upstairs lounge in what used to be the Savoy hotel with a nice original ceiling and buzzing with life. The wait was only 30 minutes but we had drinks at the bar island in the middle of the room and on the waiter's advice had some flat bread and dips with antipasti. The young staff were very obliging and helpful - we ordered the most expensive large pizza on the menu ($32) heavily laden and of good quality, a venison pasta dish which had very tasty and mouth melting meat and a spag cabonara all excellent. With two drinks each and some italian desserts, plus a liqueur coffee the bill came to $217 for four. We ordered the best they had and I think you could have had a nice night here for half the price, but this was a special occasion. This was my first trip to Dunedin and I would say the prices are around half to two-thirds of what you would pay in Auckland, both for drinks and food. It is not normal to tip at restaurants in New Zealand but I chose to give a tip because it was so good. I commented on how the waiter was that was now playing the piano - apparently he is the pianist who helps out waiting when they are really busy...

I would go here again.

Etruscos never fails to produce excellent food with service. A family run business where you are always made to feel at home. Try the schiacciata - the best I've tried outside Italy! Simple authentic flavours that draw me back every time I come home to Dunedin to visit friends. Leave room for the Crostata Al Limone, a nice palate cleanser, or be more decadent with the semi Freddo Tiramisu...see you again in a couple of months. Grazie mille.

An absolute must of authentic Italian dining in the heart of Dunedin. A warm low lit atmosphere, mouth watering Italian cuisine that leaves you wanting more, and excellent service from staff that are prompt, energetic, attentive and friendly. Not to mention an amazing live pianist who's piano rendition of The Game of Thrones theme song was a nice surprise (I'm a fan). All round Magnificent!
