“Good Studio units”
Reviewed 11 May 2012

They have a good selection of rooms including Studios, one bedroom and two bedroom units.
This trip I stayed in a studio unit it’s of a good size, with a full kitchen, and dinning room table.
The location is good on the main Road and easy to find. With 2 restaurants just across the road. Buster Crabbs on one side and the other side Avenal Homestead Cobb & Co.
I would recommend booking advance as this place is very busy Monday to Thursday with business travellers.

It was a pleasant surprise to get into our room at this property. Spacious, clean, added features like a spa bath, additional flat screen TV in the bedroom, well equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi ($5), room to store stuff, warm (chilly Invercragill autumnal evenings), and plenty of comfy seating.
We were welcomed by Debbie (I see she features in other reviews), and her friendly face, and helpful info seems to be a feature of her front of house performance. Other staff at reception were also very nice and helpful. Good PR from this crew.
Our bed was comfy, and we slept well. We noted a noisy neighbourhood bar with music going on a Sat night, but we found that our bedroom being at the back was not affected unduly by noise.
Overall, we recommend the Homestead Villa (we had a one bedroom unit). We will be back. Oh - and the price was right

Room Tip: Rooms situated away from the main road are quieter.

Small Beds- fancy curtains and bedcovers, large lounge diner- dark furniture pretty basic, big comfortable sofas. adequate kitchen facilities other than the kettle, which would not have seemed out of place in a 1* backpackers unit. It wasn't just dirty outside but inside. > some attempt had been made to clean it but the cost of a replacement one would not have been prohibitive.
Toilet floor and skirting boards dirty.
Laundry for our block -out of order - had to walk through rain to another block and sit and wait for it, as there was an obvious demand for the machines being the only ones serving so many units. Long walk from city centre- in the more light industry area. Buses infrequent. Need to use car.

Thank you for your comments.

All our units have standard queen and single size beds with other units having king and super king beds. We recognise the need to replace some of the kettles and we are currently in the process of doing this throughout the complex.

We are disappointed to hear about the toilet floor and skirting boards as we have an experienced cleaning crew plus quality control supervisors to ensure our motel stays at the highest possible standard.

Unfortunately we had to wait for a replacement washing machine over in our east wing and as our laundry services are free of charge, they do come under high demand.

Again, we thank you and appreciate your feedback.

We recently stayed at this motel as part of a wedding party.

The motel was clean, comfortable and roomy. We booked a Suite which was the size of an apartment. It had a fully equipped kitchen, separate lounge area, huge bedroom and massive bathroom with a spa bath. There was definitely more than enough room for 2 people!

The staff were very accommodation and let us check into our room early so that we were able to get ready the day of the wedding. Breakfast was delivered to our room the next morning, and I was surprised at how fresh and yummy the breakfast was, as room service can often be a little lacking in quality.

The only negative part of our stay was that the motel is right on Dee Street and therefore the traffic can be a little noisy on that side of the motel.

Room Tip: Try request a room as far away from Dee Street as possible as it can be a little noisy

Having used a number of motels in New Zealand this one stood out for overall value for money and the rooms. Our room had a large lounge kitchen dinner with modern television a large separate bedroom with a double and large single bed and with its own television and of course a separate bathroom. The kitchen area had a hob and microwave where most other motels only have a microwave. We paid less for this room than we did anywhere else and it was the most spacious and confortable. It also had a nice garden and a couple of good restaurants just across the road. It is a bit far to walk into town but not a problem if you have a car.

Room Tip: the ground floor rooms at the back have direct access to the garden but don't be surprised if ot...

We were warmly welcomed by Debbie who had a lively, bubbly personality.

The motel is situated about a 20 minute stroll from the centre of Invercargill. There was a pub/restaurant opposite the motel but it was not open for breakfast. Alternatives for eating out were in the centre.

We had an upstairs one bedroom apartment with a spa bath. The main room was large and had two sofas, table & chairs, and a kitchenette. The toilet was in a separate room accessed via the bathroom. The spa bath was good. The shower was over the bath with a unidirectional lever to control both water pressure and temperature. You could not adjust one without changing the other. The showerhead had very limited movement and the water temperature always started at cold. Whilst acknowledging the safety feature of starting at cold it was difficult to avoid a cold shower initially.

The bedroom had two double beds but personally I found the mattress too soft for my liking. There was adequate storage space if you wanted to unpack.

A hair dryer was on a shelf under the basin. Both items were covered in dust and had never been cleaned for weeks. Indeed, moving the hair dryer left a white patch on the shelf. We did not raise the matter with any staff to see if it was picked up during the daily clean but it was the same when we checked out. The rest of the apartment was clean.

In general the staff were friendly and helpful.

Not sure if we would stay there again as we would like somewhere closer to the centre of town.

This Motel is very clean, has great rooms and a very convenient location. All this is good and the Motel represents good value - but its most important features are the friendly and helpful staff. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful (including some great sightseeing tips), especially Debbie who adopted us English folks so far fromhome! We will recommend the Homestead Villa to all our friends who come this way and to anyone else who asks us - or reads this!

Room Tip: Ask what is available, give your budget - as simple as that.
