“Memorial to victims of wars”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

We have stopped here to visit the memorial. It is set in a lovely little garden and shows names of the victims of wars which came from this area. We even found our family name here, sad as those men were young and died in foreign wars.

“A beautiful park”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

to walk around and enjoy some quiet time. It is a very sleep little city but I enjoyed the parks and the people were all very nice. Spend a few days just wondering around.

“Lesson in History”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Centrally located on the corner of Dee and Gala Street this monument tells the story of the sacrifices made by many Southlanders in many conflicts. Beautiful layout and grassy lawns or benches on which to sit and eat your lunch. Colonial Bakery is just over the road in Gala Street, and the display of Burt Munro's fast Indian is half a block away.

“Amazing at night”
Reviewed 5 April 2012

This simple memorial to the men of Southland who fought in the World Wars is not far from the Southland Museum and is a must see. At night it is beautifully lit up. A lovely little garden and obelisk in memory. Beautiful.
