We are arrived in Invercargill without a booking and were pleased to find the Tower Lodge Motel. It caught my attention on TripAdvisor because of a special offer. It's located near the wonderful Queens Park Gardens and museum. Dawn and Ray were very friendly and helpful. I can't recall such a well-equipped kitchen in a motel unit. It even had a full-size oven. We took advantage of the spa bath and felt completely relaxed on departure.

We were at the end of our trip and wanted to stay at a quiet place to rest. This is a very sweet little place. It isn't fancy and the locale is off the beaten path but we enjoyed it. We were given free drink coupons for the Saucy Chef which was excellent!. My husband had a steak for $32 NZ. The same steak in the US would have cost $75. It was just a short walk from the motel.

We stayed here in October during our South Island holiday. The manager Ray was extremely friendly and went out of his way to assist at all times. His touring recommendations were spot-on, he even gave menu advice for lunch on Stewart Island (Thanks Ray, the blue cod was delicious!). We would recommend this motel to anyone planning a trip to Invercargill, you will not be disappointed. Botanic gardens over the road which were a wonderful place for walks to enjoy the spring flowering bushes. We hope to visit gain.

Room Tip: We chose a one bedroom apartment which was spacious and quiet and had excellent cooking facilities.

Located just out of the city centre (a 10 minute walk or so), our motel unit was light, airy and clean. It was well appointed and spacious, with a separate bedroom and an additional bed in the living area. Had we been staying more than one night, we could have eaten in as the unit had a stove, electric frypan, toaster, good sized fridge, and so on.

With temperatures around 12 degrees C (or less), we were very appreciative of the fast working effective heating system in the main room, plus the blower heater in the bedroom, and heater in bathroom.

Going on a recommended from the helpful staff, we had a great meal at the local suburban restaurant, the Saucy Chef (cnr Andrew and Sydney streets), a 5-10 minutes walk away from the motel. The food was sophisticated and gratifyingly included sweetbreads, venison, pork and wild hare, with the meals substantial in size, well cooked and delicious. It was very well patronised by the locals.

Re access, the Tower Motel was a bit hard to access as road works were in progress on Queens Drive re broadband installation, a temporary hiccup that should be sorted by February, if not before.

Re summer, don’t forget to draw the blinds if you want a good sleep. This far south, twilight is prolonged, with light in the sky still at 10 pm, and the first light the next morning around 3.30 am and the dawn chorus in evidence.

Room Tip: All rooms were on ground level, which was very convenient. Our room was about one third of the length of the motel away from the main road and very quiet. Quietest rooms would be furtherest away from the motel office.

Found this motel on TA, and was grateful to get a room rather late in the day. Very well located, immaculately clean, and very comfortable. We had a studio which is all you need, and still had kitchen facilities, with a large bathroom. Highly recommend staying here.
