It’s a modern looking building with it’s own large car park and we came here on the recommendation of a member of staff at a nearby service station whilst filling up the fuel tank. It’s on the main route heading south out of Invercargill.

Fairly typical of a refurbished/new brewery owned pub - spacious bar with various sports showing on several television screens (including one very large one) and some pool tables.

We were shown a bar menu and a more extensive restaurant menu which appears to be available in the bar too. Most tastes are covered from snacks, burgers, pasta, etc to main courses in the $30 range. There was a mix of clientele including some families when we went in and it was a fairly busy Saturday lunchtime. We just opted to sit in the bar and both ordered Smoked Chicken Fettuccine and a couple of glasses of wine.

The pasta was a large plate full - a decent amount of chicken, bacon and onion in a white wine sauce with parmesan on top. They also provided a chunky slice of bread to “clean the plate” - if you manage to eat all the pasta! I must admit I struggled a bit however my wife who is more of a pasta fan succeeded.

Bar service was efficient and the food good for a total of NZ$45 which was good value. Toilets were clean. Overall a decent place for a bar meal.

If, like us you are heading to the Catlins there are large stores nearby to buy food and drink.

An excellent menu, way above the old food served in the old tavern, before it's upgrade. Tasty, filling and affordable.

A short drive away from the CBD, the Thar and Feather turned out to be a great choice for our penultimate evening meal in Invercargill. For a Friday night (and Valentine's to boot) the place seemed not quite full, but this didn't reflect the yummy meals. The best seafood chowder I have ever had! That is NOT said lightly. Followed by delicious blue cod, my meal was very good, with the exception of an unidentifiable dressing on the salad - best left off in my opinion.
Service was good, polite, relaxed and pleasant. Pricing better than the central city.
I'd suggest management enlarge a bit on the hunting lodge theme - it seemed a bit bare in places and the table decorations were basic and not really in keeping with the theme, but we liked it and enjoyed our evening. I'd go again - just for the chowder!!

A group of 18 of us dined here tonight and what a fabulous time we had. Everybody commented on how lovely their food was and the generous portion sizes. The children's meals were also large in size.
Very reasonably priced compared to other restaurants in town.
Friendly service and the manager John was quite humorous lol.
Highly recommend going to this establishment. It's the 3rd time we've been and it's always been lovely.
Thanks for a great night again.

Thank Lisa B
