It’s a modern looking building with it’s own large car park and we came here on the recommendation of a member of staff at a nearby service station whilst filling up the fuel tank. It’s on the main route heading south out of Invercargill.
Fairly typical of a refurbished/new brewery owned pub - spacious bar with various sports showing on several television screens (including one very large one) and some pool tables.
We were shown a bar menu and a more extensive restaurant menu which appears to be available in the bar too. Most tastes are covered from snacks, burgers, pasta, etc to main courses in the $30 range. There was a mix of clientele including some families when we went in and it was a fairly busy Saturday lunchtime. We just opted to sit in the bar and both ordered Smoked Chicken Fettuccine and a couple of glasses of wine.
The pasta was a large plate full - a decent amount of chicken, bacon and onion in a white wine sauce with parmesan on top. They also provided a chunky slice of bread to “clean the plate” - if you manage to eat all the pasta! I must admit I struggled a bit however my wife who is more of a pasta fan succeeded.
Bar service was efficient and the food good for a total of NZ$45 which was good value. Toilets were clean. Overall a decent place for a bar meal.
If, like us you are heading to the Catlins there are large stores nearby to buy food and drink.
