“You Deserve the Best”

We've been visiting the South Island of New Zealand for years but have avoided the rather touristy town of Queenstown in favor of the more rural areas. This year a rather disappointing weather system wreaked havoc on our fly fishing plans with our adult son. So at the last minute we decided to leave Gore and head to Queenstown for an enjoyable two nights. We found the Rees on the web the night before and were able to book a 2-BR apartment with a balcony facing the lake for a reasonable price. The apt was awesome - - great MBR, kitchen, laundry, and comfortable sitting inside and out without the late night noise of partyers. The staff was extremely helpful and made it easy to enjoy the town which had changed considerably since we saw it 20 yrs. ago. The free van service was perfect, while the walk to town along the lake took only about 40 min or 30 min by road. We plan to return on our next visit to the Queenstown area,

We spent three nights in a two bedroom apartment. Hard to fault on any level. 3km walk to town, 1km trail followed by 1.5km road, then just remember to cut over past the ice rink rather than round the headland...all the staff were friendly, apartment had everything down to washer/ drier and a balcony with outstanding lake views. Good breakfast, didn't try the restaurant as we walked to town, but can take shuttle bus or water taxi if less energetic.

Reception area is lovely as you arrive, but after that, it quickly deteriorates. The hotel is built below a retaining wall which makes it quite gloomy.
We had booked an executive non-lake view room. To get to it we walked down a very dark passageway- grey retaining wall, grey floor, grey walls. While we obviously weren't expecting a lake view with out room, we didn't expect that we would have a view of another grey concrete wall from our balcony!
We were just above the car park, and the open plan set up, long narrow rooms and abundance of concrete means that all the noise reverberates down through the room.
For the first time ever, I was so unhappy with my room that I called reception to ask for other options. The DM was lovely, and very professional. She sent someone down to show us an alternative room, which was much smaller but much much lighter. The staff were excellent in getting us moved across, but I was disappointed that we were charged the full amount for the upgrade- given that we arrived after 7pm, chances are the room wouldn't be rented that night anyway (quick online check showed 3 of those rooms still available ), and even a reduced price for the first night would have given the impression that the Rees want their customers happy, not just as much money as possible.

Highly recommended! Studio apartment was really well equipped and a terrific view over the lake. Do not miss the sunrise or the lovely walk into Queenstown on a good day. Beds are amazing! Bar was very pleasant, never used the restaurant, but staff were all very helpful.

Room Tip: Lake view is a must!

This is a great place in Queenstown. I would recommend this to anyone. We had a partial view room and it was still wonderful. We had tons of space and it is very well appointed. The rooms are very big and the kitchen is new and modern.

Room Tip: May want to ask for a view but the non view rooms still have a pretty good view - at least ours did...

Absolutely loved this hotel! The location was great, the room was perfect, the view was spectacular and the service was outstanding! I can not fault this hotel in any way shape or form. The complimentary shuttle bus into town was a god send after a long day of driving.

We stayed with friends at the Rees for almost two weeks and loved the place. We loved every minute of it. The apartments are beautifully appointed and afford great views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Beds are very comfortable, bathrooms are high quality, kitchen is very well equipped including a washer & dryer. The internet worked efficiently, so did the air conditioning. Queenstown itself is very charming and the walk from the Rees to the town is beautiful. Alternatively, you can take the hotel shuttle. Queenstown is also an ideal base for hikes in the area which are really unique. We would certainly come back.

Room Tip: We stayed at 314 A and B and can highly recommend it.
