I particulary enjoyed this place for the main reason was i had a good time here.
the first night it was busy but that was ok cause it was in season.
beds were great there were funny posters on the walls everywhere!
they had awesome hammocks i could lie there all day.
they had no problem with drinking at all or coming back late as long as you kept quiet.
the spa was also awesome.
better than most i been to

If your inconsiderate and noisy then this is the hotel for you! If not dont read on....
As mentioned by other travellers dont stay in the room next to the kitchen, i had no sleep all night. People walking in and out of a 24 hr kitchen all night, i think the hostel is poorly managed, generally the staff who work there get free rooms so they they dont really care how its managed. Asked to be moved the next day and the staff really couldn't be bothered told me to come back after 1pm. I ended checking out the next day trying to deal with the issue and wasted another half a day as i was so tired so had to sleep in the afternoon. The mattress's are crap too. Look round the corner and you will find similar priced hostels and better quality rooms, such as Aspen Lodge.

I stayed in a private room that was located next to the kitchen and near the back door. It seemed like the walls were made out of paper, so it was very noisy when you were in the room trying to sleep. People who entered the hostel after their night out used the back door. It was as if they were entering the room I stayed in! I hardly slept during the night because of the noises. At about 5.30am someone decided to skype behind the computer in the hallway and because of the thin walls, it woke me up again.
When I complained about it at the reception the next morning, they didn't take it serious at all and told me I could check out before 10am. I really didn't need that advise, beacuase I had already decided to do that anyway, although I had booked for 2 nights.
There are much nicer places to stay for around the same price, so stay away from this place, if you can.

This was my worst hostel experience ever. They got me a room right next to kitchen and common area and it was hell noisy 24hrs. The window was facing the kitchen backdoor so airing wasn't possible at all (doing so the kitchen noise&smell even worse). The kitchen serves free soup at 6am, meaning I had to bear all the kitchen noise from 6am.
The first night, people in the common room were yelling and cursing all night but the front desk weren't doing anything about it. The wall was peper thin so I felt like I was sitting together with those crazy people. Even without them, the noise from corridor was unbearable, as I could hear every single word of all the passers-by.
Room was so gloomy and cold with poor painting, low lighting, and crappy linens. And it's not very centrally located. Overall, there was nothing I liked about this lodge.
Compared to other backpackers in NZ I've stayed, everything was far behind the standards. Stay away - you could find tons of other places much nicer & peaceful in Queenstown!

We stayed at Bungi's for three nights while looking for somewhere to live in Queenstown and I left with mixed feelings about the place.

The front desk service was thorough and very helpful but I couldn't help but feel that all of the staff were jaded, fed up and weary. Still, they showed us where everything is and it's been amazing to me just how few backpackers have staff that bother to!

There was a large kitchen with loads of stuff to use and food storage space, hammocks and tables in a sprawling garden and a free spa, which we didn't use. There was free soup at 6pm every day but, to be honest, it was pretty gross and consisted of a salt and pepper flavoured strong stock and a few overcooked pieces of onion, carrot and potato. But, hey, if you're travelling on a budget then it's better than a poke in the eye. The cartoons in the rooms and toilets/showers were appealing to a point but I'd rather attention had been paid to the awful showers themselves instead - burning hot or freezing cold, your choice!

But even that wasn't too bad for the $53 per night we'd paid. The problem, really, was not the hostel or the contents of the room itself - we had a comfy and spacious double bed and a dresser with mirror - but the walls, door and curtains. The room was obviously a partitioned off bigger room and the plaster board in the middle hadn't even been fitted properly - light streamed in around the radiator. The door was 2 inches too short and the curtains 3 or 4 inches too short and so light came in in abundance there too. We had to use a towel on the window sill to keep the room darkish.

But light wasn't the only problem. Maybe we were unlucky to be staying at the same time as some incredibly arrogant, selfish and loud girls (they were noisy at other times of the day too) but if our room had been adequately built, we wouldn't have had to listen to screaming, singing, talking and shouting at various times of the evening, night and early morning at quite the same volume. It was as if they were *in* the room. (Remember - we weren't in a dorm but a private room.) One evening, not late on, we were able to hear the whole 20 or so minutes of the couple next door having sex (even though I'm sure they were trying to keep the noise down!) because of the gap in the wall adjoining their room.

I'd stay there again and I'd recommend that others stayed because the price of the double room was the best in town by far for a hostel... but I'd make people as aware as possible of the noise problems. I still can't really understand why they didn't just buy longer curtains and fill the gap properly between the two rooms... *sigh*
