The description on the restaurant sign outside said "world famous roast chicken" however the real thing did not live up to the description when we went there for dinner in January 2014. We should have realised it was not up to scratch as there was only one other table of diners in the restaurant area, never a good sign.

Searle Lane is a frequent stop for us when visiting Queenstown.
This week we stopped in for lunch, a $10 lunch which was perfect.
The outdoor area was sheltered from the breeze coming off the Lake and a comfortable to place to dine.
Highly recommend!

This bar has a special $10 menu for lunchtime. Amazing value for money with a good selection of meals - we tried the fish and chips and the burger with salad and chips. Excellent value.

We went here for dinner and order Lamb, Steak and the portugese style chicken. all of which fails to impress taste wise.

This pub has a good atmosphere and The waitress is very lovely and kind. I could not fault her service. However, for the food that boasted world famous roast chicken, there is something really wrong with the food

To start with, we order medium steak which turns out all brown already (not pink as it should), the Lamb Shank is soft and the gravy is nice, but the lamb shank has no taste at all which is weird as the lamb will need to be braised for long hour and usually the fragrant of the spices as well as the salt will already come through. without the gravy the lamb shanks is soft meat with no taste.

The worst offender is the portugese style chicken? it does not taste portugese at all, nor the sauce that come with it (since when sweet sour sauce is portugese souce) the sauce reminds me with lemon chicken you can find in Chinese take away. The chicken is overcook to my taste and the breast is already very dry and tasteless (not salty at all except the skin). They should brine the chicken first to give it moist and taste.

You will get better chicken at Freshworld or coles/woolworth IMHO and to charge $25 for half chicken is crazy.

Will not come back.

We ordered the mixed grill, all was cooked to perfection. Staff were wonderful, probably the best meal we had through the south island
