“Another lovley stay at the Queenstown Hilton.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014

Another lovely stay at the Hilton Queenstown. We stayed for five nights Monday - Friday incorporating Valentines day. Fabulous staff once again, great breakfast spread each morning. Top class menu and service on Fridays Valentines evening, a very special meal in the hotels grill restaurant.
The room we had booked was a lake view king room. The first room we were allocated, although completely acceptable regarding cleanliness and facilities ( we had booked this type of room on a previous stay). But, unfortunately the location was terrible. The noise from a huge motor associated with the swimming pool under our room was running extremely loudly. The noise in the evening was so loud it sounded as if one of the motor boats from the lake outside was sitting on our bathroom roof! By midnight we could not stand the noise any longer, and my husband went to speak with the receptionist. After a short discussion he was offered an alternative room, No. 610, on the same floor but further away from the motor and more central in the main building. We could even see the lake properly now! We moved straight away, and had a restful nights sleep.
Once again, thank you to all the Hilton staff who made our summer holiday one to remember for all the right reasons! Cant wait to come back and stay with you again in October. (May book a room in block A directly on the lake front next time though?!) Thanks once again.

Room Tip: Perhaps in building 'A'? this is a property right on the lake front.

Dear angef261

Thank you for a great review and for choosing to stay with us again.

The Engineering team are servicing the motor that caused you to have to move rooms.

Send me an e mail, andrew.nisbet@hilton.com, for your next trip and I will make sure we allocate one of our fabulous lake view rooms.

Amazing, we stayed in a room where you could walk outside through a beautifully maintained garden and be by the lake. Our own private spa pool on the balcony? Yes please, beautiful way to spend valentines evening watching the sun set behind the mountains. Room had everything we needed, beautiful room, fireplace, huge bathroom and nice touch with 'his and hers' sinks. LOVED having real espresso coffee in the room. Great breakfast spread, excellent spa facilities, friendly and welcoming staff. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Worth the extra money for the private spa and direct access to the lake.

Excellent rooms, furnishings and contents. Was disappointed there were limited leisure facilities, eg free access to a swimming pool (the weather was hot and sunny), only an indoor pool for which an entry fee was required. Also disappointed by lack of free airport shuttle; given the hotel's location, this is a must. Breakfast not included but for $25.00 fee payable on arrival, what was offered was very good though replenishing the dishes more frequently would be beneficial. The location - near airport but distant from centre of Queenstown - is an inhibiting factor.

Dear Di B

Thank you for sending in your review.

I was confused as to why you were charged to use the pool, unless you were staying at the Kawarau Hotel managed by Hilton. There is no fee for Hilton Queenstown guests.

I will raise your point regarding the replenishing of dishes with the team.

Kind regards

Andrew

This was a trip to remember and staying at the Hilton only added to making this trip very special. we were very happy to have stayed here during our trip to NZ We also walked from the Hilton to Queenstown and that was very much worth the walk - it took 2 hours to get there over 12km but the view along the way was amazing and everywhere one notices how clean it is and the people are extremely helpful and kind

This hotel has a beautiful setting, awesome views over the lake, great service, and an amazing buffet breakfast in the restaurant the 1st floor! me and my wife loved our honeymoon time here. Everything is modern and nothing has an old feel which is great.

Before I address the Hilton Resort let me state to anyone thinking about a trip to Queenstown: It is really expensive! How expensive? European capital expensive. Cup of coffee to go? $7 Glass of table wine? $16.00 8 minute cab ride? $30.00 Room? $400.00/night. Few of your fellow travelers will be Kiwis because most Kiwis can't afford this place! That being said, the Hilton was very nicely appointed. The bath was marble with separate shower and contemporary large tub. The amenities were quite nice although housekeeping did not replace ones used everyday. The staff were uniformly excellent. When we had a small problem with the room on arrival, someone was on it within 15 minutes and arranged for a repair. Check in/out was efficient, accurate and pleasant. The lake view room was a bit disappointing as the view was there but between two other buildings. The beds and linens were quite nice and the room was quiet but a bit stuffy at night. Oh, no free WiFi in the room and the public area WiFi just didn't work. You could connect but there didn't seem to be bandwidth to do anything.

The biggest issue is that the hotel is way further out of town than it looks on a map; a $50.00 cab ride to be exact. There is a complimentary shuttle that runs during the day and early evening but the last pick up is at 10:30 and nothing between 7:30 and 10:30. Thanks to Tripadvisor I knew to reserve the shuttle early. Besides the shuttle there is a water taxi but it also requires reservations and costs $10.00 per person per trip and has nothing later than 10:00. I will review the on site restaurants separately but while ok, they were very expensive and not all that good.

All in all the Hilton was a good experience but if I had to re-do the trip I would probably stay in town. I struggle between a 3 and 4 rating and the lovely staff pushed it to the 4.

Room Tip: If you want lake view make sure you get lake side!

Great place to be, scenic by the water front and very high level of service. The staff are really helpful and the facilities are great. Its a little out from Queens town, but they have a shuttle service and water taxi service going to / from town. Really recommend the SPA treatments that was a godsend from stresses of work life. The restaurants are amazing, excellent views, architecture and great menu. I recommend the Marino Lamb shoulder
