I had a lovely time at this property and HIGHLY recommend upgrading to Lakeview! Wakapitu Grill was tasty and had a gorgeous view, and the $10 water taxi is well worth jetting into Queenstown. Excellent wi-fi, great hot-tub and lap pool, and excellent service all-around. I hope to return someday soon!

We had three awesome days staying two nights at the Hilton during our trip to New Zealand!

The Hilton was amazing. The staff are lovely and couldn't do enough for us. The valet, water taxi, shuttle, restaurants, facilities and the view were all fantastic.

We will definitely be returning to Queenstown and hope to stay at the Hilton! What a great experience.

The Hilton Hotel is a lovely hotel with great restaurants and bars however getting into town can be challenging. The advertised free shuttle bus has limited times and was booked out every time we called. The water taxi only departs in the afternoons so if you can't get on the shuttle in the morning then you have to pay for a taxi which was about $50 each way.
I think if we stayed in Queenstown again we would probably choose a hotel closer to the town.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are very nice

I stayed at the Hilton for 3 nights over Easter with a good friend - we enjoyed a Lakeview room and enjoyed every minute of our time at this hotel!

It's set like a European Chalet with the main hotel, separate apartments and multiple restaurants on site. The restaurants are more expensive than eating in town, but very handy after a big day exploring Queenstown. The hotel is set on the lake, with amazing views of the mountains - so beautiful to wake up to every day! Walking tracks are right on the lake and you can go in multiple directions, on easy flat tracks or more challenging hilly climbs.

Our room was lush, plush and everything in between. Robes and slippers and a bathroom that is bigger than my bedroom at home. The bathtub is to die for (especially for a taller girl, it felt like a swimming pool!). Water pressure great, toiletries lovely and heaps of towels etc. We slept soundly every night and was never disturbed by other guests. Our beds were super comfy and the room was warm enough at night on it's own to warrant having the window open. We did have the fireplace on briefly one night, just to say we had done it!

The only downfall to the Hilton is that it is NOT located in town. While I think this is a positive overall, it does provide transport issues.
- The hotel offers a shuttle bus in and out of town for free - very handy (remember to book in advance!), but I think it needs to offer more times (only about 6-7 each way each day).
- Water taxi - $10 each way. Surprisingly warm and dry, but again the timetable is limited and it fills up, quickly!
- taxis - ridiculously overpriced. One late night after dinner cost us $45 for a 20 minute drive.
Lots of reviews I have read got hire cars, and I think that if we had stayed longer and wanted to explore out of Queenstown, this definitely would be an option, and one I would recommend to other travellers.

Overall though, we loved our time at the Hilton - all of the staff were lovely (especially Laurenz the shuttle driver!) and if they could improve their shuttle timetable, it would be perfect!

Room Tip: Get a Lakeview room. You won't regret it!

Dear Bronwyn J,

thank you for your fantastic review.

I'm glad to read that you enjoyed the village atmosphere and the comfort of your room.

The out of town location definitely adds to the tranquillity of the village.

I hope you have another chance to return to the Kawarau Village.

Kind regards

Mario

Stayed at the hilton in April and it was terrible. Our sliding doors wouldn't lock so where late for a reservation. Then when we got bact to the hotel our front door wouldn't unlock. Got given more keys and still wouldn't work. The next morning there where fire alarms and a please evacuate building. There where no staff to direct anyone and the fire engine had arrived and still people where walking out of the building with no assistance. Not happy and would not recommend

Dear CindyJake,

although not good thank you very much for your review.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for not exceeding you expectations.
We run a maintenance programme for all our guest rooms to spot any problems before any check-in, unfortunately the system failed in your instance. We will review the process and take action accordingly.

I can't recall an evacuation in the last few weeks at the Hilton, but at the Kawarau Hotel. In any case at the Kawarau Village we take Safety & Security very serious and we conduct trial evacuations on a regular basis. I have shared your feedback with the management team to review our evacuations logs and procedures.

I hope we have another opportunity to convince you of our quality.

Kind regards

Mario
