The hotel itself is situated out of town and taxis are expensive, however the service and room quality more than made this one of the most comfortable and luxurious stays on the South Island. We also made the rookie mistake of leaving items in the safe, the staff and managers were more than accommodating to help us out and keep our items safe until our return. Thanks guys and recommend this place to anyone wanting something a bit more upmarket !

Whilst a 15 minute drive away from downtown Queenstown, this is not really an issue given the regular ferry and bus services. It also gives the hotel some additional peace and tranquility.

There are a mixture of rooms (which is very hard to ascertain from the website) being hotel rooms (hilton or kawarau or hilton residences. Within each of these there are then various prices and quality of rooms....so it pays to call them and understand what you are actually reserving.

I stayed in their wakatipu suite which was lovely with separate lounge area of a good size, nice fireplace, large deck overlooking the lake, an spacious modern clean bathroom. The residences are more apartment style with proper kitchens.

The facilities are great and well maintained with a large indoor heated pool, spa pool and a selection of restaurants and bars ranging form a pub through to fine dining.

All staff were friendly and helpful but the front of house staff (reception, restaurants, bars etc) are seriously under trained. There also seemed a bit of a shortage of staff with reception phone not being answered (on 5 occasions) nor the room service phone sometimes, long wait times to be seated at breakfast or receive tea/coffee refills etc.

The breakfast is fabulous with a massive selection of hot and cold food of exceptional quality. Unfortunately I must say the the food and beverage prices at this hotel are extortion....even for Queenstown. I think there is some complacency about this given its a bit of a drive to restaurants in town. I dont mind paying for a 5 star experience but this coupled with poor service experiences just makes it annoying and creates a bad feeling amongst guests (which most people commented on).

Whilst I was very grateful for a special rate and some nice upgrade options, my understanding was my rate included internet (and who doesn't provide complimentary internet these days??). Despite spending on average 350/400 per day staff insisted on still trying to rip me off for $15 per day for internet (and only 2 devices allowed). I called and asked for this to be provided and after much back and fourth it was refused. I asked again at reception and they couldn't make a decision without asking the GM. The guest services manager rang later and finally offered complimentary internet. It wasn't really even about the cost, (I had my mobile phone and used that instead) but it was inconvenient and just showed the penny pinching / rapacious charging mentality here. I wouldn't stay at any hotel who wont provide wifi.

So its a great hotel but it needs A LOT of work. This hotel is charging premium rates for a 4 star experience.

Room Tip: Specifically ask for a lake view in advance and confirm if you are in a apartment or hotel room (bot...

Could stay a few days and not leave ! Love the lakefront location, choice of eating (albeit a little expensive) and the fire pit. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are nice and kids can easily stay and have space to roam.

I spent 4 nights here recently for a business trip.
My stay here was brilliant. The staff where very helpful and the service was great. The only bad comment I had about service was on my final night I went for dinner with my Partner at the Bar and Grill (which has amazing lake and mountain views!) and for some reason the service that night was not great - we ended up going to the bar to order ourselves and the same for the cheque which was unfortunate as otherwise i would have scored Excellent!
I have to mention the Spa especially - after working for 3 days i decided to treat myself and it was just exceptional service. The staff where not were very considerate to everyones modesty - no matter how conservative or unconservative you may be. It was just clean, calming and overall wonderful!
The rooms are brilliant in the main hotel. Our room had a lovely balcony with lake views, a fire place and lounges - perfect for my partner who spent the day on the slopes!
It is a distance from Queenstown itself but if you are there for snow it is near the Remarkables ski field. You can get water taxis ($10NZD each) or normal taxis ($50 NZD per trip) to town or the hilton do run a shuttle too.
For those going to the snow that have a car - they offer a Valet service for $10 NZD per day - just call and your car is waiting downstairs and just drive up and the car is taken to be parked - fantastic service!

The setting could not be more perfect for the winter or summer - the lake, mountains, trees etc it just has it all.
It was nothing less than what we expected from a stay at a Hilton - apart from the last night dinner - but overall fantastic!

I have come to expect high class quality from the Hilton Hotel chain and the Hilton Queenstown certainly doea not disappoint.

Upon driving into the undercover front entrance, you are welcomed by the warm wood tones and luxe furnishings.

The staff were welcoming and very helpful.

My room was located on level 2 and after recovering from my initial awe at first sight of the splendid room, your eye is drawn to the stunning courtyard and views of the lake and mountain ranges.

The rooms are beyond belief, BEAUTIFUL. Nothing more needs to be said.

I cant sing enough praises for this hotel, no matter what your trip, treat yourself and indulge at the Hilton, you will not be sorry.

Stayed for five nights in July '14.
2 nights in relaxation room and 3 nights in lake view room.
Both rooms were great.
The spa offered with relaxation room is nice - whether its worth the extra dollars I dunno but you might have to see for yourself!
The hotel provides is warm. The staff were lovely and helpful. There is a lake full of ducks at the back which was pretty cool.
The hotel runs courtesy buses into town, we had a rental car and felt this was useful for day trips to other South Island locations and into town. We did get a cab back to the hotel one night ($45). all in all, it's a beautiful place, amongst amazing scenery, out of town but not far from everywhere you want to go.
If you get a chance, take the chance to see Milford sound and if you can, fly or helicopter one way or the other, it's the most amazing experience.
If you're still undecided.. Just do it :)

My husband and I travelled here for a business conference recently and thought it a beautiful hotel. Whilst it was a fair distance from the heart of Queenstown, we hired a car and found that this was ideal for us. We utilised the services of the water taxi to the city also, but found that this was quite chilly if the weather was not great. The restaurants were top class and food exceptional. Accommodation was super comfortable with heated bathroom floors, open gas fireplaces and a very classy but homey feel. The resort has picturesque views over the lake and wonderful walking/Cycling tracks on the doorstep. Our only complaint was that we had to ask for our room to be serviced earlier as we returned from full day events, having been gone from 9am twice to find that our room had not been made up. The hotel was very quick to rectify this and it did not happen again after we complained. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.
