We came across the ice arena after taking a wrong turn. We thought about going back later to ice skate but then we rang to check if they do curling. Ted told us there was a social comp on the next night and that if we had four people we could play another team of four. we paid $15 each and had a full game of curling, including a run down on the rules etc from Ted and even had something to drink included. It turns out we were curling against two members of the local ice hockey team but curling is easier than you think, so we didn't completely suck! we had heaps of fun and came back later in the week to see the ice hockey game on the Friday night. This is a great venue!

I haven't been to an ice arena since I was 10 for a friends birthday party.. I'm 22 now and had a free afternoon, such a crazy feeling being back on the ice! so I say give it a go, great atmosphere down there

The ice arena is an excellent facility and definitely worth a visit. The skating aids for younger children are excellent and kept my 3 & 5 yo's happily entertained for a couple of hours. It's very cold inside so make sure you take an extra layer & hats & gloves for little ones. Lounge facilities are great with a lovely warm fire & plenty of comfortable seating.

My only criticism was of the poor attitude of the young staff manning on the day. They were very vague and not helpful at all. I guess that's one of the pitfalls in Queenstown with a lot of transient people that are not necessarily concerned about customer service.

Kim Dot Com had the same idea as us to go skating that day! Well his kids anyway...
Huge rink with good ice, groomed averagely. Very cold so wear your ski gear and take gloves!!!
There is a fire in the lounge and air con but heating struggles in the winter conditions.
Hire boots and entry were very reasonable for Queenstown attractions and boots were of a very good quality with great ankle support.
Friendly staff and yummy hot chips, if you like that way to keep warm.
Music was rubbish and very limited to 1980s 'pop' that wasn't even cool then sorry. Video screen reflected this LOL. Time to invest.
Lots of fun, and we saw a couple of good trainers running lessons for kids, that were reasonably priced.

My 4 year old son needed some assistance to get the correct shoes - 5 sizes later still no luck. There were teens using the younger children aides (the seals) and the staff did nothing about it. Saying 'They shouldn't be doing that'. There were 3 men working on this day. QT is a great place - very disappointing.

Hi Anthony,

We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience at the Arena on what was an extraordinarily busy day. We only size skates for young children by asking their parents for the child's shoe size or by asking for one of the shoes to assess the correct size. Four year olds generally can only wear the smallest size skates available so I'm surprised to hear you went through five pairs before finding the correct size. The seals and penguins are extremely popular and we often run out. We are looking to purchase more in the future. We would be happy to offer you a free skating session for you and your son at any time with a complimentary seal/penguin hire. Thank you for your feedback.

Best Regards,
