“Not the best stay !!”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

Rooms were clean and tidy and had a great view. The location wasn't too bad only a 10min walk to Queenstown Mall. We stayed 6 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment and had requested 2 double beds but we got a double bed in one room and two single beds pushed together in the 2nd room which was very uncomfortable. We had 4 adults in our group and most nights were not all able to take short shower's due to hot water running out and once its used you have to wait at least an hour for it to heat up again.

This is an old hotel. Rooms and furniture are dated. We stayed for two nights .During our stay we felt that the staff was like a machine. All matters were follow strictly to the operating procedures and no flexibility at all. We couldn't find the warm hospitality and felt at home. This supposes to be a lake view hotel, however you hardly can see the lake if you stay at the low floor. And never think for a free upgrade unless you are willing to pay. Also you must have a pair of strong legs as you need to walk up a steep slope from the city center before you can reach back to your hotel.

This hotel is reasonably clean, averagely priced and can be very warm. That's where the positives stop. Let's begin with the wifi which is completely lacking. Each guest gets a free allotment of 20 minutes or 20 gb's or which ever is used first and it can only be used in the lobby. This wifi cuts out, does not last 20 minutes (even when using less then 20 gb) and the only other option to this is extremely expensive wifi which begins at $3 for an hour and up to $10 for 24 hours which must be used consecutively. We we're misinformed whilst staying at this hotel that the hours did not have to be used consecutively by a hotel employee resulting in a massive embarrassing argument with a "manager". At first this duty manager offered to change the wifi charge of $30 for three people down to $15 and after more discussion it was removed completely. Within the argument this manager accused my friends and I of lying but eventually he saw reason. However around town there's plenty of free wifi hotspots just not in the luxury of your own hotel. For the remainder of the trip the concierge staff except one nice girl did not engage with us at all making us feel most unwelcome. The staff were not very well trained and didn't understand customer service at all. There was never any offer to help with recommendations of activities, restaurants or bars and didn't help with the booking of buses or taxis their basic role.
The location it self isn't too bad but there are plenty of closer options if you aren't hiring a car whilst staying in Queenstown. The massive hill on Frankton Road is bugger on the way back to the hotel but depending on the weather is fine if you enjoy a walk.
The rooms are clean although the bedding is outdated. We had a buffet breakfast which offered about 7 hot items as well as cereal, toast, pastries and a fruit bar which was the same everyday which got boring but can be handy before a day of skiing.
This hotel is ok but I've heard better things about other hotels and especially the backpackers!

Thank you for your comments, we appreciate your feedback.
We feel that we offer excellent value given our location, service and facilites. However, in your case it appears we failed to meet expectations and for that I am truely sorry.
Thank you for bringing these to my attention, the hotel is working hard to ensure these service issues to do not occur again.
Kind regards

This hotel has clearly been taken over by a corporate firm that doesn't believe in up grading to a good standard. The health inspectors need to look at this hotel. This is not exceptable to promote tourism in this country.
You are given only 20 mins free wi fi once daily, which ends In 10 mins. The staff are not happy as people continue to complain and management won't do anything about it.

Room Tip: Do not go there until the owners except to upgrade to NZ standards

Contrary to some of the negative reviews for this hotel, I had a good experience staying in the hotel for four nights In June. My only gripe is at check in, at least oneof the frontline staff can afford a smile for first impressions. We are a family of five (three kids) and we found the apartment comfortable. It has two levels where the upper level has two bedrooms. One is the master room with an ensuite bathroom, with a common toilet. The master room has a tv as well. The second bedroom with two single beds do not. That is not an issue. The lower level comes with the kitchenette, tv, sofa that does not pull out to a bed, a single bed, dining table and chairs for four, a study table and chair. Microwave, oven, usual crockery and cutlery serve your basic needs should you wish to eat in. I did not try room service nor eat at the restaurant/bar downstairs. Wifi is a bugbear here in NZ hotels anyways, with only a limited amount of time for free wifi in the lobby or 3MB whichever hits the limit first. Don't bother purchasing wifi, it is not useful when you want to use it to serve the net to book hotels for the next leg of the journey, if you get what I mean.
I reckon the two bedroom apartments are all on the fourth floor (top) and we got a breath-taking view of Lake Wakapito. There are two balconies, one on lower level and the other on upper level where the master room is. The lower level also comes with a toilet separated from the washroom. This is an added boon so that we all do not have to fight hard for the toilet and shower. Carpark is at the basement albeit tight. There was an occasion when all lots were occupied when we returned at 10 pm. We ended up parking outside but within the premises of the hotel. The carpeting along the corridors look dated but overall the unit itself looks well maintained, no signs of mould in the bathrooms, nor muskiness. Electric blankets are available on each bed except the one in the living room but there were heaters in every room anyway which were sufficient even to us tropical people. Note: If you happen to travel with people who find climbing stairs a challenge, it would be hard to get up to the second level to have a shower. For the price we got, we were happy with the apartment, especially the space it gave. I suggest for food, if you want to eat in, either go to the grocery store in the town centre and do it yourself in the room, If feeling adventurous, the town centre has loads of places to eat.

Excellent location! located right in front of lake wakatipu, just go out and take a stroll at lakeside. Friendly hotel staff. We had to leave for Milford Sound early in the morning and they were ready with the full buffet breakfast at 6.00AM sharp!

Room Tip: Choose room on lake side to get breathtaking view of lake wakatipu

The rooms are a little dated. Don't waste your money on the breakfast as its one of the worst ones i've had whilst staying in any hotel. The cut oranges were clearly left overs from the day before, the hashbrowns were cremated. We were setting off on a day tour and were in a bit of a rush and my children has some pasteries that they didn't have time to eat and we were told we couldn't take them with us. 2 consecutive days we had to request the correct amount of towels to be left in the room. One evening we were all getting showered up and suddenly the hot water went off, i rang reception and was told that the room has its own water tank and once its used you have to wait 30 minutes for it to heat up again. We have 2 adults and 2 children in our group and spend no longer than 10 minutes each in the shower. I expect this if staying in a motel, not one of Copthorne hotels. To sum it up don't waste your money or time with this hotel. I'm halfway through my stay at this hotel and feel very dissapointed.
