This was the low point of our 5 week tour of NZ!
We had booked a "Garden Studio" for 2 nights - to find we had a cramped room with one window looking over the main passageway into a hedge.
We asked about changing rooms to be told they were fully booked; yet the same evening there was a sign out advertising special rates!
It was certainly not value for money.
Being a cold and wet couple of days in Queenstown did not help either!

Room Tip: If you are thinking of staying here, then do not select the Garden Studio!

Dear Guest, we are sorry to read you didn’t enjoy your stay, although we do feel that we should clarify a few points mentioned on your review.

When you arrived at the Lodge, the Receptionist explained we were fully booked therefore we could not offer you an upgrade or swap your room - The Duty Manager specifically mentioned on her handover that night that she took the time to explain why the vacancy light was on - as we have another Motel in Queenstown and we act as the Duty Motel which means we assist guests looking for accommodation in Queenstown by referring them to other motels with vacancies for that evening - but on site at Lomond Lodge we were full.

We feel all our Garden rooms match the descriptions on all of our collateral, they are well proportioned and are by no means cramped - your room had a King bed, wardrobe, table & chairs, plus a Kitchenette and a Plasma TV and ipod docking station - we feel this reflects the level of amenities required of a 4 star motel.

We pride ourselves on our service and standards at Lomond Lodge and are genuinely sorry to hear you felt disappointed - You booked a Garden room and that is what you were checked in to. We do have a variety of room types, including Lake view rooms.

We hope you do opt to return to Queenstown and that the weather is more appealing & sunnier!!

Kind regards,

Lee Exell

The location is great. Right next to the main heart without all the noise and calamity. It is also conveniently located near the main bus stop which comes in from Te Anau. Had a great stay in January, after spending a few rough days hiking. The room was spacious, clean and lovely. We were able to borrow some DVDs for free at reception, which were of a great selection.

A senior solo traveller, I stayed four nights in the lodge's lake view room early February 2014. It was even better than I'd expected. The view, the privacy, the stillness apart from the odd late night reveller, the two Laurens in the office who helped with everything I needed and answered any questions I had. The room was large and clean and instead of going out for a meal at night, I stayed on the balcony in the warm summer evenings, with delicious takeaways from an excellent Japanese restaurant next street down.
This is the place to stay in Queenstown, no doubt.
Will be back, hopefully.

And yes, a lift would have been very nice...

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra and get a lake view room.

Thank you so much for your comments, it is wonderful to read that you felt so well looked after and enjoyed your stay with us at Lomond Lodge.
We are extremely lucky to have such fabulous team members who are so committed to ensuring that each and every guest is well looked after during their stay - we will be sure to share your comments with both the "Lauren's" and the team in housekeeping, as they work endlessly to ensure the rooms are spotless and are well maintained!

We do apprecaite your feedback as it is good to know people are genuinely enjoying their visit to both Queenstown and Lomond Lodge - and as you say, why dine out when you can watch the sun set over those stunning mountains from the balcony of your room!

With thanks again, and we hope to host you again in the not too distant future,

We wanted to book two rooms at the Lomond lodge but they only had one available but eventually offered us a 2 bedroom apartment which we took. We arrived at the Lodge and were taken to the apartment which we drove to. It would have been a good 5-10 minute walk I would say. The entrance was a small door at the side of an Indian restaurant, up a set of stairs and along quite a corridor which smelt strongly of curry before arriving at the entrance to the apartment. Bearing in mind the approach we were a bit apprehensive about the apartment but once through the door we were very pleasantly surprised. It was spacious, roomy and very well equipped. It also had a very nice spacious balcony overlooking the lake. It was very centrally located which suited us as we had to catch the bus early the next day. There was some noise during the night from revellers but that did not disturb us but might have disturbed some people. we were very satisfied.

Dear Martin thanks for your thorough review - as you mentioned the Off Site Lake Apartments are literally in the heart of Queenstown & have stunning views out over Lake Wakatipu!
These Flats are located in the Bay Centre complex, which has a number of privately owned Apartments - the main entrance is via Shotover Street & on occassion you may notice cooking smells, as there are a few restaurants on the ground floor of the complex - but all of the Apts are fully self contained and have their own heat /air con unit, so they are fully ventilated and are not affected.
We are pleased you enjyoed your trip and being able to sit out on the lovely big balcony - we hope to host you again you visit Queenstown.

With thanks,
Lee & The Team at Lomond Lodge

Nice place to stay when in Queenstown. We stayed 4 days and liked the idea of walking down to the main area of town, 5 mins to the waterfront, 5 mins to all the shops and restaurants, 10 mins to the supermarket and 10 mins up to the skyline.
Rooms are average size, but you really need a lake view room as far as we could see, they are lighter roomier and have balcony. Free internet at 250mb a day, good laundry and well equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Rooms have fridge and small prep area. Linens and towels are good. Only downside is if windows are open is a bit of noise from the road, traffic and worse for wear walkers after a night out!

Room Tip: Lake view a must

Hi thanks for taking the time to review Lomond Lodge - we are pleased you found the location well suited to walking in to Queenstown centre - many guests who stay with us throughout the summer find it a great spot as they head off on the tracks for a few days!
The Lake view rooms are certainly very popular as they offer such lovely vista's out across the Lake and the back drop to the mountains, so they do get booked out quite quickly - but equally we think the Garden rooms are perfect for those wanting a nice modern, comfortable room whcih has some pleasant views on to our private garden and patio area.
It is good to know you made use of our facilities, re the laundy and internet and both met your expectations.
Thanks again for your lovely comments and we look forward to hosting you again, hopefully next time we can offer you a Lake view room!!

We stayed in a lovely lakeview room at Lomond Lodge before and after our Milford Track hike. The Lodge was in an excellent location for us - a couple of minutes' walk into town and not too close to the nightclub noise at night. It was a short walk to the Ultimate Hikes office for the pre-walk briefing and early morning coach pick-up. Very convenient! Hotel reception looked after our luggage and upon return, they checked us into the same room and had already delivered our bags to the room. The fridge & tea/coffee-making facilities were very handy. There was a microwave oven but we had no need to use it. The room was very clean, nice shower with plenty of hot water, comfortable beds, had table and chairs at window which was a nice spot to have a cuppa and enjoy the views. I would have no hesitation in staying here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a lakeview room if you can spare a few extra dollars...it's well worth the views to the...

Dear Tina thank you for your review and comments! We are pleased to read you enjoyed your stay at the Lodge and everything met your expectations and you were well looked after.
We have many trampers stay with us during the summer months, so we appreciate the importance of ensuring there bags are stored and delivered back to the rooms in time for the guests return! also there is nothing more important than a nice hot shower and a good nights sleep after many days out on the tracks.

We hope to host you again next time you visit Queenstown, and thanks for choosing to stay with us at Lomond Lodge!

Only spent one night as we were traveling on to Te Anau and Milford Sound. The staff at the hotel were very nice and most accommodating. They let us leave our car in one of their parking spots the day we checked out so that we could spend the better part of the day walking about Queenstown. The hotel is conveniently located on a relatively quiet street. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They have some rooms that face the lake and some that face a nice little courtyard with tables, a perfect spot to relax with a coffee.
