My wife and I stayed here for two nights on our honeymoon. We paid to upgrade to a suite with a full view of the mountains and water. The room was pretty nice, and the view was great.

My only major complaint was that after paying the money to upgrade I asked the manager on duty if they would be willing to comp a bottle of wine since it was our honeymoon. The manager stated she couldn't do that. It seems hard to believe that a manager couldn't swing a complimentary bottle of wine after we paid almost an extra 200$ to upgrade to a suite. This is a no brainer for top notch hotels in the U.S. If you tell them you're on a special trip they will bend over backwards to make your stay as great as possible. One would also think if you're staying in a suite they might also give you free unlimited wifi access...it's the little things that make a difference.

Other than that this place was pretty legit. It's a decent location to downtown, and has great views...just need to work on making the stay for guests a Lil more special.

Reception staff friendly and helpful. We were on the 4th floor but it was a route march to get to our room. When we opened the door we were greeted with a very spacious apartment with a large sofa and armchair, table and four chairs and a balcony and then in the large bedroom we had another balcony and the view of Lake Wakatipu. There was a shower and a bath in the large bathroom. The continental breakfast was good but thought the evening meals were a bit pricey so we walked down the steep hill to the town for our evening meals.

Room Tip: Not all rooms looked as if they had good views. We were in room 1457 and the views were excellent

I was booked into this hotel for three nights by a travel agent and would not stay here again. The main rooms and hallways are badly in need of repainting and refurbishment; carpet is threadbare on the stairs and elevators. The interior of my room was fine, but there was no view to speak of and the rooms facing east get very hot during the day. Satellite TV went out completely one evening. Location is okay, but take the side road (Frankton) down to town rather than following the steeper road the front desk instructs you to take.

This hotel serves many busloads of Chinese tourists and seems to concentrate on volume and turnover rather than service. Checkout time is 10:00 am and the front desk is reluctant to extend it because of the next busload coming in. However, I was quite annoyed that a housekeeper barged into my room at 9:40 am to clean it, while the privacy sign was still hanging on the locked door!

Room Tip: Insist on a superior room (those have been remodeled) and a lakeview room, otherwise you can't see much of anything.

Thank you for your comments on the hotel and your stay, the hotel is full of guests from all over the world as is the town especially at this time of year just after Chinese New Year. Appreciate your comments and feedback.

I would recommend getting a superior king lake view room if you can get a cheaper rate through a hotel booking site. Our room was nicely furnished and the view of the Remarkables was 'remarkable' although I would ask for a room with a balcony or some outside space too if Booking in advance and paying top $.
The standard room we stayed in for another night was a bit scruffy, net curtains, dirty balcony, like a cheap motel room rather than a ' 4star hotel', again we stayed as it was the cheapest room in town for our last minute booking so adequate for that. We found parking easily on the street outside the hotel although it was peak season and the staff on reception were polite and helpful.
The corridors need upgrading too. In the lift to our superior room, it looked like someone had taken a knife to the walls and picture on the wall, vandalised I think, which was a bit strange and concerning security wise.

Great views from this hotel. Good location close to town centre which was down a fairly steep hill. Friendly helpful staff. Rooms adequate with very comfortable beds. Food for both breakfast and evening meals gave a very good choice and was cooked well. We were originally staying for three nights but due to my wife tripping over a loose paving slab just outside reception, falling badly spraining her ankle and breaking her wrist we had to extend our stay. The management were good enough to see to our every need, even arranging a hotel for us in Invercargill where an operation to repair the wrist was carried out. We then after 6 nights away returned for two nights to collect left luggage and arrange onward transportation. The management had upgraded our room to a suite which made our stay more comfortable. We thank them for that.

Room Tip: Lake view is a must.
