“Business Accommodation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014 via mobile

Two nights accommodation. Choose option for paid parking, would recommend for easy access to room.
Tidy room, with desk/chair and lounge chairs. TV reception fuzzy. Heater in room difficult to use.
Great proximity to town centre. Friendly helpful staff.
Only ate breakfast in resturant, which was standard hotel buffet expect pancake machine (but was not working for me).

Would stay here again.

Have stayed at The Copthorne many times - location great - short walk into the busy town centre. Underground carpark, spa pool(which is always great on holiday) nice restaurant on site.Room service available, mini bar in room etc. Rooms always clean and staff friendly. We always stay in a Superior Room which has a balcony. Have booked our next Queenstown stay for 2 nights at The Copthorne in another 6 weeks time. Always happy here. Queenstown full of activity - great place to visit - the walk back up the hill to the hotel is quite steep but easily accessed.

We had a 4 night stay in this hotel. The reception staff gave us wrong directions to our room. It is a big hotel, with several wings. It was not possible to get to our room from the underground car park without carrying our bags down a narrow stairwell.
The room was reasonable, quite clean and had a view of the lake.
Queenstown is definitely the adventure capital of South Island, and we were able to walk to the town centre in a few minutes, where much of the activity begins. Be warned the walk back is up a steep hill.
My big gripe here was that the hotel charged over $100 for 2 phone calls to USA lasting only 10 minutes in total. Daylight robbery.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, and the destination itself was the highlight of the trip. It is difficult to imagine that Queenstown is one of the major cities in the South Island, as it has a small village feel. This hotel is on the banks of Lake Wakatipu, but we were in a corner inside room, without a clear view of the Lake. Level 5 is at the entrance level of the hotel, which means that it goes down into the lake. This place is great for a honeymoon, and is quite cosy. They only give 20 minutes of free WiFi a day per device, connecting to the restaurant wi-fi. It was just a 5 minute walk to the City Centre down a little footpath that ends up at the Novotel, and perhaps 10 minutes to the I-Site (their tourism information office). The restaurant was usually lead by an immigrant, and the Chinese one had a rather strong accent. This is a Millennium Group hotel, the largest in NZ, so the quality was quite decent. The pillows were a bit hard, and the room cleaning was delayed one day until 5pm. We had breakfast at the local 24 hour convenience store daily, just 5 minutes walk down the footpath. The room was decent sized and spacious, and was adequate for our stay. There was an iron,a kettle, hairdryer, extra pillows, tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided complimentary. In addition to minibar there were some snacks stacked on the table (payable). This seemed to a popular tour group hotel, and there were at least 3 coaches parked outside at all times. Most of the groups seemed to be from Japan. This hotel can be recommended with only a few minor caveats.

Room Tip: Try and get a LakeFront room.

Stayed for 2 nights in a superior lake view room. If we craned our necks we could see the lake! That wasn't too much of a problem as we weren't spending lots of time in the room. We had a balcony, which was really good.
The room it-self was okay, a bit dated but clean. The hotel is generally dated and could do with some refurbishment. We found it stiflingly hot when wandering around.
I know it's the same with many chain hotels but I find it a bit staggering when asked to pay a surcharge for wi-fi, just hide it in the room cost!
It's location is the winning factor, 5 min walk to town. It's nice enough, but just left us a bit meh! I would stay again if no more than 2 nights and could get a super low rate...

Room Tip: It's worth requesting a balcony if getting a superior lake view room as it's nice to have so...

Lovely place Queentown and there's lots to see and do. This hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful although they did seem to overbook and there was some confusion at reception, ie one half didn't know what the other half was doing. The bar and restaurant staff were welcoming and I would certainly recommend this hotel which is excellent value. The views from the hotel are fantastic by the way. I can also recommend the Italian Restaurant in the town.
