We stayed here last Christmas, and loved it so decided to return this Christmas. When I entered I wondered if the second time would be good as the first. With in five minutes of check in,we had realised we had made the right choice. The manager Andrew gave us a tour ,organised our wine and made sure we were settled in.Susan on reception was a revelation. The most helpful person weve come across in any hotel and fantastic sense of humor to boot.We ate four nights in a row in the restaurant, with out a single complaint and nothing but praise for the chefs. We were lucky enough to be served all four nights by our favourite waitresses ever.Martha and Luisa were absolutely delightful.Couldnt have asked for anything more.We would also to say a big thank you to Hannah,Emma and all service staff for making our best holiday ever. Will be returning annually.

Room Tip: We had a garden view ,which was lovely but our parents were lucky enough to have a river view,which...

I stayed here just before New Year 2013, as all the cheaper hotels were booked up. At around $300 it wasn't cheap but it's not overly expensive, and actually great value for the facilities.

Our room was located close to reception and just beautiful. The view was over the river and mountains and watching this at sunset was spectacular. The bed was very large and comfortable. There was also a sofa, mini kitchen facilities with fridge, wine glasses, and a sink etc. Large flat screen TV, lovely bathroom.

The hotel facilities are great. The gym was the best hotel gym I've ever seen. Not only did it have the usual cardio machines and dumbells, it also had a power cage with an Olympic bar and plates totally over 150kg. Amazing! Also, it has the best view of any gym I've been in. Following the gym we were able to use the pool and spa suite for free. This included a steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi, again with the beautiful view. Oh, and we had the whole of the gym and pool to ourselves.

We also had dinner in the restaurant. It was pricey but worth it. Beautiful view from our table.

A few other things to mention - parking available, rooms are quiet, reception were helpful showing us around the facilities and particularly in giving us access to the spa. There is a cinema room where you can watch dvds and the hotel provides free popcorn too. Possibly the only negative is that it is a little far out of town - although for me this was a positive! Would recommend and would love to stay there again.

We've been on 3 continents and this has been by far our favorite hotel! First off, the staff, Hanna, Susan-absolutely fantastic. They are extremely attentive and make sure all of your needs are met. If anything is off, they will jump to it and fix it immediately. This hotel has gorgeous scenery and if you get the river side it will change your stay from good to INCREDIBLE! The balconies overlook a mountain range with shades of blue all the way to lush green. The river that cuts through the rock canyon below takes on the blue from the sky and is an amazing jewel blue color. I've never seen this color before - not even in the Caribbean. The hotel was designed with solid marble throughout, gorgeous touches everywhere and very rich and royal design. The spa is incredible with good prices and fantastic services including manicures facials and massage, etc. We were able to completely relax and enjoy the treatments. The spa area has a hot tub, (with a few bubbles to keep the room very quiet and serene), a wonderful pool with an incredible ceiling line and bath area, saunas, etc... Maria and Kasai did a superb job. There is a cinema/theater room you can reserve and choose a movie to watch- we opted to have it at dinner time and had the restaurant serve us for dinner and a movie. The gym has a full gym set up and faces the incredible mountain/river scenery. The restaurant has a full menu to suit all tastes. Just a few minutes into Queenstown, which keeps this hotel nice and quiet. If we ever get to New Zealand we will make this hotel our priority.

Room Tip: Get a room on the River! You won't regret it!!

The photos and first impression of this place is grand, however the rooms are cold, the beds are two singles pushed together and very uncomfortable. Duvet has no cover. Shower taps fell off. All in all we are glad we didn't pay top dollar to stay here.
Staff are all lovely though hence the two stars!

We were extremely lucky to be upgraded to the remarkable suite and Andrew, a manager, gave us a complimentary bottle of bubbles when he found out it was our honeymoon. All members of staff were lovely and very helpful. We enjoyed relaxing in the spa and in the big bath in our suite. The view over the river was lovely. It was nice to stay out of town but a shuttle bus might be useful to take you in if you don't want to drive in for dinner. The decor is quite dated and in need of an upgrade but apart from that, it is still quite special. Thanks for a nice stay.

The hotel is located away from the city; we chose it because we thought it would be more charming for our honeymoon. The staff is nice. However, though the view from the room is amazing (granted you'll stay in a room with a view, or else, what you get is the hotel parking lot) and the room is big, everything else calls for much needed improvement. The bathroom is very small, there is only one sink and barely any support area. The box is also very small, and the shower head was installed only 170cm away from the floor. My husband had to lean into the shower to wash his hair, which had yet another problem - it was either too hot or too cold, and then the water just wouldn't run as strongly anymore. The worst thing is the attention paid to the hotel in general. The interior design is heavy, somewhat remembering a Classic "Vegas" style, one of the two bathroom lights were out, the hairdryer was broken, there were two glass supports but there was only one glass there. Though we spent five days at the hotel, the staff either didn't notice or didn't bother to see there was a glass missing. The staff also seemed to have never cleaned the room and only made the bed. There was a tea table at the room; on the fist day, I had some chocolate milk and left my dirty spoon upon it (since there is no soap or sponges available, I assumed the staff would replace it for a clean one). The dirty, chocolate-filled spoon was left on top of the table during our entire stay. Breakfast was also poorly served - generally, there was only one person available who often left the room and went into the kitchen. I had to knock on the kitchen door at times, to get any attention. All there was at the buffet were the mugs, half-filled with milk; in general, no one would come by to clean the buffet and no replacements were made. Though we arrived early for breakfast, it was always kind of messy. Rechauds were placed on the buffet with their respective name tags and nothing inside but hot water - we had to order eggs or bacon and the like. Not that I see any problem with ordering my food, but, then again, why not remove the rechauds and tags from the buffet? I was truly left with the impression that the staff was never properly trained and no one knows exactly what to do. It was definitively not worth staying away from the city - which is actually very charming - for this kind of service. Unfortunately, we had already paid our travel agency. If not, we would have changed hotels on the very first day.

This hotel opened with great fanfare when I lived in Queenstown many years ago. Getting many awards over the years. It has been surpassed by many hotels since then such as Millbrook, Matakauri and Blanket Bay but is still one of the iconic hotels in Queenstown.
This is an outstanding hotel, it still has the feeling of something special. It needs a good clean and some paint but on the whole a great place to stay with an excellent view over the Shotover River.
Our room was only $148.00 per night which I think was an off season rate as I see it advertised at $300 elsewhere.
We didn't eat at the hotel but went to Gantley's which was nearby and has an outstanding wine list, menu and service.
A very odd thing about the hotel is the paintings it has on the walls. Reminded me of the paintings at Hogwarts, mostly portraits and down right ugly, didn't see any of them move though. What about paintings of the local area.

Room Tip: Do not get a room on the ground floor. The higher floors have a great view.
