I stayed here last week and can honestly say...that nowhere I have stayed before has the service been this great!!! a BIG thank you to JEN (I think she is the manager) and to HANNAH for her above service quality from checking us in, her tour and the full service throughout our stay was exceptional. Always ready with a smile!

Cleanliness was great, rooms were spacious and the view was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!

Room Tip: River View Rooms! Has a fab view and nice balcony

Beautiful room with gorgeous views over the river. Staff were very friendly and helpful - we will definitely be back for another break away!
The location was excellent as we were away from the town and it was very peaceful.

Great hotel to stay; about a 5 km drive to the lovely Queenstown centre. no parking problems, beautiful surroundings, 5 minutes drive to location from where you can do exciting water rafting!
Very spacy rooms, clean and comfortable. Dining area offers brilliant views. Choice of buffet or continental breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff, happy to assist you, and they like to have a little chat with you. On arrival, a staff member takes you around to make you familiar with everything this hotel has to offer. Important for some of you, happy hour between 5-6 pm.
In other words: good choice!

Room Tip: ask for a ground level room which allows easy access to parking facilities.

NOTE: I would have rated this as a GOOD experience. Since Trip Advisor doesn't have an option to give it 3.5 stars, I've given this a 4. Avg would be too harsh a rating so! :)

We were on our honeymoon and had booked this hotel for 4 nights of our 10 day holiday in NZ.

We always follow trip advisor and though we had read couple reviews on how bad the beds were as well as many reviews on the fact that the place was a bit run down, we gave it a shot anyway cause of the following plus pts/reasons-

1. It looked like the traditional, vintage style hotel
2. Country side, away from the noise/city (QTown)
3. Onsen hot pools was a 2 min walk (Exceptional experience. MUST DO for couples)
4. Gantley's restaurant was a 1 min walk (Beautiful fine dining restaurant. Must do though pricey)
5. The view from the balcony seemed beautiful (& it was!)
6. The SPA seemed inviting & I must say it was one of the best SPA experiences ever. We would have booked another massage if not for time constraint
* I loved the fact that only guests using the massage services in the afternoon could use the pool and that it was open to all only between 6-10 am and post 6 p.m. (Hence no splish splash sound or people talking near the pool during our massage)
* The entire spa area is heated- a warm and welcoming experience. They even gave us complimentary champagne as part of a special honeymoon request
* The 1 hour swedish massage was beautiful. The masseuses were well trained! The couples room was breathtaking. The steam, sauna, pool (less chlorine)- beautiful!
7. Even though, we read that the restaurant's food was avg and pricey, we knew we could walk up to Cavell's Cafe (A 2km walk from the hotel & the food was brilliant!) for most of our meals (& this is exactly what we did)
8. HEATED Bathroom
9. SPA bath. We loved this!
* The bathrooms weren't run down at least & they were infact, very lovely so that was a respite!

Here's the thing-Onsen hot pools, Gantley's (and I think even the SPA services at this hotel) offer free pick up and drop from the city. So if you don't mind the drive up and down (40mins one way) then staying in this hotel may not factor in as a plus pt. For us, it still was a plus pt, because we wanted the quiet, to take long walks on empty roads/scenic country side and enjoy the close proximity to these places.

Minus pts-
1. The place IS run down. Your first impression of the inside hall, the gallery, the restaurant will be 'wow'. Even when we were shown our bedroom it looked inviting. But when you look closer, you wouldn't want to sit on the sofa. It was that dirty. There were cobwebs in the balcony and on the ceiling above our bed
2. The BEDS are un-comfy. But this is where I would like to mention that the mgmt took prompt action the next morning when I complained about the bed as per my first night's exp that A. the bed was very uncomfy and caused a bad backache B. That we got twin beds pushed together which added to the discomfort. The front desk personnel immediately looked into it and thankfully a couple was checking out so we got room 306 (highest floor) in just couple of hours. I did mention the cobwebs in the balcony which was attended to but there were cobwebs in the ceiling above our bed in this room. I was just thankful, we got a better bed (king size single unit) so didn't complain about that.

3. The Food. Though Cavells Cafe was a good option, it was a bit inconvenient to walk up there sometimes & the view from the hotel restaurant being breathtaking, we had 2 meals there. Well, the choices are very limited & the food was avg in taste. Even the breakfast was ordinary. I took the continental breakfast option and I had to wait for the cheese, eggs, ham as there was none on the table & the taste was nothing to write home about). The staff is very polite though but one can't do much about taste so we didn't see the pt of complaining

4. You are in the middle of nowhere. So if that's a concern pt, you may want to avoid booking this hotel. For us it was a plus pt like I mentioned earlier

5. The jet boat noise below (at the shotover river) may bother some who like pin drop silence, though it didn't bother us (I do like pin drop silence but it didn't both me much)

Whew! I hope this review helped :) All the best & have a great holiday!

Room Tip: Take a room on the third floor. Send in a mail request after you book the hotel.

I'm writing this review as a guest paying $148 RO rate. I am staying in a 'garden view'. Tatty curtains, no aircon... And facing sunny side most of the afternoon, soooo hot! Sooo uncomfortable..... no bathmat, no toilet roll holder, old CRT TV, no hotel compendium, no room service, no shuttle into Queenstown (but they do have a deal with the local cabbies; $20 into town) nastiest prints on the walls of the room reminiscent of a 2 star caravan park cabin. Sad to see the demise if what was once a lovely property.

Room Tip: Anything with a view or a breeze.....

Firstly - this boutique hotel has stunning views, a great balcony, lovely and spacious room, and a comfortable big bed. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we were let down in a number of areas including: On arrival - the building from the outside looks very uncared for as it is covered with dirt and spiderwebs. The bathroom - although it was grand and beautiful when I tired to have a bath on the first night we ran out of hot water. On the second night (day of checkout), while having a shower, I pulled the shower curtains in and they were covered in pink scum. Food - although very nice in the restaurant for dinner we would have preferred room service however we were only given a limited choice which could be compared to pub food. For breakfast, my husband ordered pancakes which was supposed to come with fruit. It came out without fruit and we were told they didn't have any banana's left however we could help ourselves to the fruit salad in the buffet. When we explained he would have chosen something different if we'd known they were very apologetic and offered my husband to help himself to the Continental breakfast (buffet) with no further cost. Didn't seem quite good enough especially as we were paying more for a cooked breakfast and the buffet looked abit sad - lacking food.

Overall impression: Our expectations may have been too high when booking here.

We loved our stay at Nugget Point, we stayed in room 306, a superior room, overlooking the shotover jets, on the river. Awesome changing view. We had a lovely massage and used the spa facilities. Our large double bed was so comfortable.

Room Tip: make sure you have a room with a view, our room 306 had a spectacular view
