“Don Draper Goes to Conference”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

We stayed here for our conference. Had a Lake view and a king size bed. What a view and what more could one wish for? I didn't pay but I am sure the room rates reflect the fact that the hotel is in need of a revamp. The building had a mid 20th century vibe - there is a very cool modern staircase between the conference room and the dining room and bar (bar looks like Don Draper could sit there with a whiskey in hand). The bathroom though is also very 60's (not so good). There is a safe but you need a special key to use it (important for your passports I think). They do supply body lotion but only to better rooms I found out - but they will give it to you if you ask.

Room Tip: Get a lakeside room. Ask for body lotion (important for us light travellers). Yo also get a shared...

From the exterior the Rydges looks quite presentable, but step into the rooms and its a different story. We booked a king lake view room and we were nothing but dissapointed. There was barely enough walking space around the bed. The 'king' bed was 2 beds stuck together as was the quilt. And to top things off my partner was locked in the bathroom due to the door knob falling apart. Although the icing on the cake was due to the lack of parking we were forced to park down the street where some dead s**t decided to take a stroll over our hire car leaving the bonnet damaged. Thank you Rydges for the experience. I hope no one makes our mistake of booking with them...

No surprises here, you get what you pay for. Reception were unfriendly really no personal touch here. We had to ask about things that they should have informed us about. The rooms are ok, and why both with a balcony, that's not a balcony! The bedroom was with two double beds and my husband and I couldn't sleep in one bed together, we slept separately. And we aren't big people, just not comfortable at all.

We had a room that had a dividing door between the sofa bed area and the king bed room that was perfect for us as we had our 7 year b old b on the sofa and a porta cot in with us for our baby. We had an awesome room easy access to hot tub andv the view was picture perfect of remarkables. We walked into queenstown every day it was flat and only 10mins to centre of town. Location brilliant.

Stayed here on 5-6th August , in our information it said Superior lake facing view, yes we agree superior lake views, the room however was not superior room 506 was very noisy with constant humming , the wooden door were the fridge is keeped was falling of its hinges. No chairs to sit on in room, hardly any room to move around. For the price we payed a big disapointment.

Room Tip: Wifi in this room was very poor and if you like humming this is the room for you.

For the amount paid I was expecting a lot higher standard of room and size. I also requested a quiet room, but the walls obviously aren't that thick or insulated, and can easily here people simply talking walking past the room.

Also im pretty sure it states you have a balcony per each room, rather than saying right outside the sliding doors is a communal concrete pad linking all the so called balconys. The food and service in the bar was fine and of good value whilst the room, even being Queenstown and expecting it to be more in price being a resort , still feel it as a rip off for value for money, considering I spent the following week on a road trip and and paid $140 for a rm of a lot higher standard and service, and also paid $200 for a room in Kaka Pt in the Catlins which was superb and could show your standards a thing or two.

Seem's it was typical Queenstown being a rip off as always and have already told a lot of colleagues and friends not to bother with your chain of accomodation

Room Tip: don't stay here
