“Very European, Needs Free Internet”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

I have 48 mb left on my free 30 minutes/300 mb in the lobby for internet, so probably can't finish this review. Why, when one pays the prices you pay for these hotels that they don't include unlimited free internet is beyond me.
We have a room on the 6th floor with a balcony. I wouldn't want ANY room here that is not above the 4th floor and doesn't have a balcony. There is no air conditioning and it is quite warm here in Queenstown. The view is awesome.
That said, the room and bathroom are a nice size. The bed is comfortable and the staff are helpful and nice. We haven't eaten here, as there are many places down the hill to eat. The hike back up the hill is difficult for this out of shape old lady, but I did manage to make it up.
There is safe underground parking, which is the primary reason for our selection of this hotel.
The garden hot tub area smells like garbage.

Room Tip: Fifth floor or above with a balcony.

Had the opportunity to stay here on an overland excursion organized by Holland America cruise line. It was wonderful. Beautiful lake and mountain views. Lovely buffet breakfast and full kitchen in the room if you were on a longer stay. Perfect spot to explore the Southern Alps and Fiordland or just ski or do those crazy NZ things like bungy jumping.

We have stayed at the St Moritz previously and had expectations that we'd get the same great experience we'd enjoyed previously.

We had booked rooms for a small conference and found virtually everything that could have been screwed up, was. The arrival and departure dates, number of rooms, and our requiremenst all had to be straightened out on arrival - using the emails we'd kept as a base line.

Having said that, the staff appeared to be in direct contast to this - they were young and very keen to please.

You'd have to wonder if the training was up to the expected level.

The location of the hotel is good, and views from some of the rooms spectacular.

So, 5 star? Perhaps once, and perhaps will be again, but certainly not at the moment.

Room Tip: Check if your room has views if that is important to you

Dear Don

May I begin by thanking you for your review. I am pleased that our subsequent dialogue was able to provide some greater insight for both of us in terms of the anomalies between bookings and delivery.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel for your next meeting.

With gratitude
Lynne

Lovely hotel and decor. To avoid disappointment whilst on vacation, recommend that rooms with lakeside view booked (wasn't bothered when I made the reservation and, as a result, had a good view of the concrete ramp in front of the hotel). Only disappointment was that the air conditioning didn't seem to be working, so was quite uncomfortable sleeping after daytime temperatures hit 28 degrees.

Hotel restaurant and food very good with excellent views of the lake. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Would be a 5 star experience if air conditioning hadn't of been a problem.

Advertised as 5 star accommodation ,first impressions of this hotel has the wow factor , lovely welcome , lovely room and a fantastic view that is where the wow factor ends. The bar ( though pretty )is over priced , the food served in the restaurant was fantastic until a hair of unknown origin was found in my partners meal, it was instantly replaced with a fresh meal but we spent the next half hour looking for other shortcomings rather than enjoying what was a delicious meal. Next was the cleaning of the rooms , ours was cleaned by Stevie Wonder !!! rubbish bins unemptied and left on the side, soap on the shower floor unmoved for 5 days , the shower seal actually coming away from the door, the mini bar never replenished . we also had to make our bed every night as the base sheet was too small the quilt cover was upside down and stained, the top sheet was just tucked in and never actually straightened . Not what I'd call 5 star service. We were actually asked at one stage to turn down our entertainment , we felt like naughty school kids being told off. If your looking for a location rather than service this is your hotel ,the views are spectacular it's a real shame the service is not. Do yourself a favour choose another 5 star hotel , that may be one !! This is NOT.

Dear Sir/ Madam

Firstly, I was delighted to see that on first impressions, our hotel provided the wow factor for you - that our team provided you with a lovely welcome, and that your room and view were equally impressive. Everything you mention is 100% where our effort lies in regard to guest experience. On reading further however, I became simply mortified and beyond words. The team and I have received your feedback with significant disappointment, and I can assure you that your experience has been escalated appropriately. All I can do is so sincerely apologise and tell you that your experience bears no resemblance to our normal standards or service delivery. I do hope you will reconsider Hotel St Moritz should you find an opportunity to return to Queenstown, so that we can demonstrate that your experience was not reflective of our norm.

Kind regards
Lynne
