Owner description: Peregrine Wines are the producers of the Peregrine, Saddleback and Mohua range of wines, located an easy 25 minutes drive from Queenstown in the heart Gibbston. Surrounded by a rugged and majestic landscape, our stunning Winery building has won international awards and accolades for its design and construction, which evokes the wingspan of a Peregrine (native falcon or Karearea) as it glides on thermal air rising from the heated land.Peregrine is a boutique, artisan producer of a premium range of wines that focus on Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay. It is a brand that since the first vintage has gain reputation both domestically and internationally as one of New Zealand’s iconic wine brands.Come and visit us at the Cellar Door every day from 10am-5pm. We trust that you will leave with fond memories of both our winery and our fabulous wines.

We had a lovely wine tasting with Rebecca. She was extremely knowledgable and very helpful. We traveled to Queenstown from MN and we were pleasantly surprised that we can purchase the Peregrine Wine in MN! I highly recommend this winery on your lists of stops while visiting Queenstown.

We took a tour with Queenstown Wine Trail, booked their “original tour” and arrived at the ultramodern award winning Peregrine tasting and maturation facility. We had visited in 2006 and were again impressed with the “new age” facility. We were led through an interesting tasting of “Peregrine” and “Saddleback” branded Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir varieties. No doubt the superior quality is their Peregrine Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc releases, but I found their easy-to-drink Saddleback Pinot Gris to be my “value buy” of our tour. (4 1/2 stars for the architectural and tasting experience)

I have been to a lot of cellar doors recently in Central Otago & Peregrine has the potential to be one of the best. But in reality it is a commercial offering with no passion for what Peregrine is. A matter of fact attitude from staff going through the motions of what the company spiel is about each wine. Throw a curve ball question & it proves they only know what they have been told to say. They have a premium Pinot Noir for sale, but not for tasting, shame really. Because at Amisfield,Winery cellar door they have their premium Pinot Noir for tasting & at $95 a bottle I bought it, because I knew what I was buying, big mistake Peregrine!

I didn't love their wines. Their tasting room
was pretty and modern. I prefer wineries that are more rustic I guess. The lady pouring was very friendly. I personally enjoyed Waitiri down the street.

We visited quite a few wineries in the Gibbston Valley and whilst all of them had good wines to try, TWO aspects set Peregrine apart.

1. Peregrine was the only winery that did not charge a tasting fee - an impost that is quite off-putting for someone such as ourselves who regularly visits the Hunter Valley near Sydney. (Yes, most of the other wineries revoke the fee upon a minimum purchase of wine but this can be as much as $60)

2. The stunning architecture and beautifully landscaped surroundings.

In addition, the staff were very friendly and happily volunteered to wrap our wine in bubble wrap when told that we were from overseas.
