The Dairy Private Hotel
Ranked #2 of 59 Hotels in Queenstown
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 September 2009

We recently stayed 5 nights at the Dairy Private Luxury Hotel and loved our experience. We hired a car for the duration which was easy to park on the premises. The location was right in the heart of Queenstown to walk to any restaurant of choice. Elspeth (manager) could not have been more willing to help with any query we had during our stay from restaurant suggestions to driving directions. The rooms were lovely and very clean, the beds were amongst the most confortable I've ever slept in! It's a great spot to base yourselves if you're wanting to head up to the slopes each day.
I am a travel agent from Melbourne Australia and will be highly recommending this hotel to any of my clients travelling to Queenstown.

The Dairy is situated in the Queenstown CBD, yet nestled up on the hill you are not distrubed by Queensland famous night life. With the waterfront, gondola, activities, restaurents, cafes and shops only a short stroll away the Dairy provides the perfect location for a weekend away. Enjoy the complimentary mulled wine in front of the outdoor or indoor open fire at night after a hard days skiing, or relax in the hot spa overlooking the mountain ranges. Delicious afternoon tea with homebaked scones and cakes are served daily and becomes a great treat after a day out. The Dairy provides complimentary bikes, and the bikeride along the waterfront across to Frankton is very picturesque. Make sure you get a room with a mountain view, as you can wake up draw the curtains and watch the stunning surrounds from your huge and extremely comfortable bed. Start the day with a selection of stunning home cooked breakfast, something for everyone on the menue, and you are set to enjoy all that queenstown has to offer.

After spotting this little hotel on a previous trip I couldn't wait to get back and stay there. I wasn't disappointed! Like other reviewers we were warmly welcomed upon arrival and shown around the hotel. It felt like arriving at the home of a friend as we felt instantly comfortable and relaxed there and we were wishing we could stay longer than 2 nights. The lounge areas were excellent for curling up on the couch and doing some reading by the fire and it was so nice to be greeted each morning with a big smile, a good morning, and "what would you like for breakfast this morning?" Elspeth is lovely and was only too willing to suggest places for dinner and tips for places to stop on our next driving leg. The afternoon tea each day is a great touch and I'm missing those little scones already! I think the location is excellent and I would definitely recommend a stay at The Dairy!

Stayed here for 3 nights in Sept and really enjoyed it. Have been to Queenstown many times before and this is in a top location - elevated with good outlook, welcoming hosts, excellent service and a set-up that allows privacy. Only downside for the price was bedroom size but you could ask for a larger room if necessary - good big bed and nice linen. I'd stay here again

I chose this hotel for a romantic mini-break because of it's proximity to the town whilst simultaneously being far enough from the bars to be peaceful to stay in. It was perfectly located above the town, just below the Gondola. This meant a nice view of the Remarkables from our lovely room, but a short 5 minute walk into the main streets.
The manager warmly welcomed us and showed us around the hotel and it's gorgeous communal lounge, library, dining room, computer facilities etc. The NZ art all through the hotel was excellent and worked well with the rest of the decor. Great big leather couches to curl up on, an 'honesty bar' where you pour yourself a drink from their good selection of local wines and other drinks, then write it up in a book to be added to your bill. A delicious looking freshly baked cake was sitting in the kitchen ready for the complimentary afternoon tea, which we sadly missed. Also complimentary mulled wine was available in the evening. The cooked breakfast which was included in our package was fabulous and cooked just as we desired - and served in the stylish dining room - the original old Dairy (Corner Store).
I wish we could have stayed longer, but only had one free afternoon and evening to ourselves after visiting family for the weekend.
We'd definitely return for a long weekend, even with the huge range of other accommodation options in Queenstown. The relaxed, homely environment was hugely appealing, whilst at the same time The Dairy manages to also be a stylish and luxurious place to stay. You have your own space, but know that any help you need is just a press of a buzzer away.
Finally - I'd highly recommend strolling down the hill (or the stairs at the bottom of the street) and finding 'The Bunker' for a excellent meal in an incredibly intimate restaurant - approximately 6 tables only infront of a roaring fire. Excellent wine, really varied menu, attentive staff and a great atmosphere.

Very pleasant b&b. I usually prefer larger luxury hotels, but this place may make me a B&B convert. Helpful staff. Good location in town. A little pricey, but most of queenstown is. I got one of the larger rooms was was fairly spacious. The bathroom was small but pleasant -- the air heater in the bathroom was especially nice.

We couldn’t have hoped for a better place to spend our honeymoon. Everything from the amazing food (hearty breakfast and scrummy afternoon tea) to the warm and hospitable staff was fantastic. The room was beautiful with a fantastic view and the cosy fireplace was irresistible. We look forward to going back there again to enjoy the spa and heated boot rack after a hard day’s skiing!
