“the best hotel of our 3-week trip”
Reviewed 25 February 2010

The Dairy is located up a small hill which gives you a perfect view of the lake, and extremely easy access to and from the centre of town. On getting off the bus, we didn't really know where to go, nor did the guy we asked for directions, but after a few minutes we found it. If lost, just head for the Gondola , the dairy is just a few minutes down from the attraction. It is also located near a campsite, so it can get normally noisy at times.
Our stay at the Dairy was perfect in every way. We stayed for 3 days, 26-29 December 09. The hotel is very nicely decorated, with a most welcoming reception / lounge area, with lush sofas, an open-fire, a trust bar (what a nice touch). Our room was small but very well designed, with a balcony so perfect for the early evening glass of wine whilst watching the world go by and admiring the view, perfect also as it was a bit hot during the night so it was nice to be able to open the balcony door. The room had all comforts expected for a bijou hotel, including a kettle with choice of teas/coffees/hot chocolate + a bottle of water. The bed was very comfy, the bathroom well equipped with a powerful shower. Very small drawback, not enough shelving area in the bathroom but don't let that put you off, because this is really a fantastic hotel. Elspeth the owner is so welcoming, attentive and helpful. Janelle our personal "helper" for our stay looked after us so well. She couldn't have been more helpful. She booked our excursion to Glenorchy for us, helped us find restaurants, dealt with our excursion to Milford Sound which got postponed because of the weather conditions on the morning of the flight. We felt very looked after, which is so nice.
The breakfast lived up to expectations (read all previous trip advisors's reviews, they are all true when it comes to the quality of the food). And as for the courtesy afternoon tea, a stroke of genius!! If you stay in Queenstown and you are after a special, memorable stay, the Dairy is definitely the place. There is free computer free of internet access downstairs and every room is given their own wifi code. Thank you all at the Dairy, you made our stay in Queenstown!

We arrived in The Diary after 10 days in Oz staying in various luxury resorts and five-star chain hotels. It was so refreshing to stay somewhere with such a warm, welcoming and homely feel. The staff were all so friendly, and it was the type of place where you instantly feel welcome and at home. The staff were also more than helpful in helping us book any dinners, activities etc. If you're going to Queenstown do yourself a favour and avoid the run of the mill hotels and stay here, you wont regret it.

We recently stayed a few nights at the Dairy as we had found the website and reviews interesting. We are used to staying in truly luxury hotels and this one aspires to be one but does not fully succeed. Location is not far away from the waterfront but it does not really have good views, one has to climb stairs when going back to the hotel after dinner which puts one off a bit. It is halfway between a hotel and a B&B, clients are left alone, with nobody on service on-site as from early evening. Rooms are not big, especially in rooms with twin beds when one struggles to find place to put two suitcases. We were welcomed by one of the receptionists, her apron was very dirty already; the day we left, she was wearing the same black apron that was looking even dirtier and shabby. It is nice for the hotel to offer complimentary afternoon tea to clients; however, having breakfast in common long tables, when one has to use the leftover butter from a previous party is not that glamorous. The hotel was full so if you happened to go down for breakfast at the same time as a couple other rooms, you had to wait for your warm selection. It was supposed to have free wireless internet but the signal was too weak to connect from the rooms or the breakfast/tea room. Had we known that a gorgeous-looking Crowne Plaza hotel existed with wonderful lake views and no stairs climb, we would not have tried the Dairy. All in all, the prices are too high for what it has to offer.

We stayed at this hotel after a recommendation from another hotel. I'm so glad we did! It is in an excellent location and has very nice rooms that are well appointed. Most importantly is the amazing staff! Elspeth was above and beyond accommodating and helpful. We sprung on her that we were getting married in 3 days time and then decided to change the date up one day! She jumped right on it and couldn't have been more helpful. She even hid my dress in another room for me.
We loved staying there so much we even went back a few days later when going through town and stayed again. I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

A very warm (and not just because of the open fires), comfortable and welcoming place to stay. It was great to be able to leave the car behind being a short walk from the centre of Queenstown. Our hosts Eslpeth and Janelle made us feel at home, no request being too much trouble. Breakfast and the yummy baked goodies for afternoon tea were a treat. We would definitely recommend The Dairy to anyone looking for affordable luxury. Jim and Kristen, Arnhem Land, NT, Australia

We recently stayed 5 nights at the Dairy Private Luxury Hotel and loved our experience. We hired a car for the duration which was easy to park on the premises. The location was right in the heart of Queenstown to walk to any restaurant of choice. Elspeth (manager) could not have been more willing to help with any query we had during our stay from restaurant suggestions to driving directions. The rooms were lovely and very clean, the beds were amongst the most confortable I've ever slept in! It's a great spot to base yourselves if you're wanting to head up to the slopes each day.
I am a travel agent from Melbourne Australia and will be highly recommending this hotel to any of my clients travelling to Queenstown.

The Dairy is situated in the Queenstown CBD, yet nestled up on the hill you are not distrubed by Queensland famous night life. With the waterfront, gondola, activities, restaurents, cafes and shops only a short stroll away the Dairy provides the perfect location for a weekend away. Enjoy the complimentary mulled wine in front of the outdoor or indoor open fire at night after a hard days skiing, or relax in the hot spa overlooking the mountain ranges. Delicious afternoon tea with homebaked scones and cakes are served daily and becomes a great treat after a day out. The Dairy provides complimentary bikes, and the bikeride along the waterfront across to Frankton is very picturesque. Make sure you get a room with a mountain view, as you can wake up draw the curtains and watch the stunning surrounds from your huge and extremely comfortable bed. Start the day with a selection of stunning home cooked breakfast, something for everyone on the menue, and you are set to enjoy all that queenstown has to offer.
