“Ticked all our boxes!”
Reviewed 27 August 2009

This was our first trip to Queenstown and when looking for a place to stay I was looking for somewhere within walking distance to town, with a view, a spa bath and a kitchen area. This motel ticked all our boxes and we were not disappointed. We had a spa studio unit with a large balcony on the top floor. The motel has been renovated recently and everything was very clean and sparkling new. We arrived on a beautiful day and the view was amazing. We loved our little home for 6 days. The Heat pump was virtually soundless and very efficient. The kitchen area with granite bench, hob top and mircrowave and expelair had everything we needed. There is a notice up asking you not to cook fresh or frozen fish or odorous foods, so I must admit I was a bit paranoid about the foods I cooked (mainly spicy noodles in our case!) However, it was not a problem. The spa bath was wonderful to relax in after a long day out exploring. Not really big enough for two...but where there's a will!!!!! You can even watch TV in the bath as there is a second screen in the bathroom. Shower was great too. Queen Bed was comfortable with electric blanket, which we didn't use as the room was warm anyway. Sky TV and WiFi internet, which was great at $5 a day, and in our case $5 for the whole week as we only checked our emails and Facebook messsages. The towels were changed daily and the bed pulled up and coffee and tea topped up. The Laundry is on the bottom floor and is $2 a load and $2 hr for the dryer. There is an honesty box in the laundry. The motel is about 600m walk downhill into town. Uphill coming home, but most places in Queenstown are. We had an 11am check out on our last day and Helen, the Manager happily stored our bags in Reception while we went into Queenstown for a final lunch at Aggies Shack - fish and chips on the Wharf! Yum! She booked us a taxi to the airport when we arrived back. We really enjoyed our stay, as first timers to Queenstown. The Beginners skiiing package was ideal for us....we loved the Gondola and rode the luge, visited Arrowtown and Glenorchy and sampled the wonderful food and wine on offer everywhere. We are definitely now fans of Queenstown and can't wait to return.

On holiday in New Zealand from the UK, we had booked two nights at the Autoline on their website before leaving for Queenstown from Wellington. On the morning of our drive to Queenstown, I received an phone call from the management saying they couldn't honour our booking because the motel wasn't built yet! There was no apology or attempt to help us find alternative accommodation. When conveying my utter disbelief at the situation, and asking for him to book us alternative accommodation, the man at the 'motel' said that they 'didn't really do that' and hung up. Luckily we were able to book a last minute room at the Coronation Lodge which was fantastic. I would definitely recommend staying there, the rooms were cosy, modern and in an excellent location.

We stayed for two nights at the Autoline Motel. Online booking was a breeze.
The location is good - with nice views.
Being both well travelled (on 4 continents) we were highly impressed by the quality of the room. You won't hardly find a hotel (in NZ anyway) that would provide such features (e.g. the very solid double glazing throughout, two Sony Bravia LCD TVs, a marble (!) kitchen top - just to name a few) at such a low price. All the features described on their website were there, available and fully working. The room was very clean and tidy.
The service was very friendly and helpful.
We hope that the high quality can withstand other travelers' rustic behaviour as long as possible - cleaning a glass cook top with a metal sponge is just one example of existing stupidity that can run down motel rooms and facilities quickly. Good luck to the new management.
We will definitely recommend Autoline Motel to our friends worldwide ... and come back to stay with them next time when we will travel to Q'town.

After being highly recommended by locals and tourist shops, we arrived at Autoline motel, and greeted by a lovely lady, who was very friendly and keen to help us find an appropriate room for our budget. The rooms are excellent value for money, well equipped and extremely clean and modern, must have been recently renovated as it looks nothing like the last reviews.

We stayed here for one night on our way up on the West Coast. When we arrived, we were welcomed by a very kind lady who had just started working there and who knew very little about the motel and its facilities.

Location:
It's a 10 minute walk from the town centre, so the location was not bad. However, as you make your way to the centre, you will pass plenty of brend new motels, with plenty of vacancies and with prices similar to or lower than Autoline.

Rooms:
The units are very large, but really old-fashioned and run-down. They are in desperate need of renovation! Our room was musty, but clean. Everything in the kitchen and bathroom works, but belongs in a museum really. The bathroom was quite smelly.

Noise
The plumbing in the motel is extremely noisy. At night, it sounded like the wastewater pipes for the entire building ran through our unit. We slept very little because of it.

Our advise:
Stay at one of the many new motels nearby, because Autoline really doesn't have much going for it.

The place is currently for sale, so lets hope the new owner carries out a FULL renovation.

Thanks for the feedback. To assist future guests when reading reviews, since this review was posted, Autoline Motel has been taken over by new owners and has had a significant upgrade.
We pride ourselves in our finishes and facilities as we believe we have one of the most modern motel and apartment units in Queenstown.

We stayed there 4 nights in a 2-bedroom family unit on top floor. The room was better than what we expected at the price quoted. It is in a very nice location at the rim of the town center. We could see lake Wakatipu from our windows. The unit was warm, cosy, spacious and lovely. The owners are friendly. Barbie from Bangkok.
