“Great Location, great Stay”
Reviewed 9 September 2009

We stayed for 3 nights. The location is amazing, in the city center. Walking distance for all. The rooms are very clean and silent. The concierge is helpful and can help you organise all kinds of tours, from bungy to bus sight seeing. They either have the same price or less compared with the city - with VIP treatment.
Take the Connecta Bus to go there from the airport, it is cheap and fast. Do not take your breakfast at the hotel, it is very expensive. Go to Mc Café, it is the best choice.
Bedrooms: don't pay for the lake view. All rooms are the same and the lake is at the corner of the hotel.

They will nickel and dime you to death, Internet is a rip, and so are drinks in the bar, the staff aren't allowed to recommend local business if they offer the same services... aka their spa .. etc etc ... ( I found Body Sanctum ask for Jonathan- is on par with 10,000 waves in Santa Fe, but I had to find this on my own).. They will also get you to use their tour company but its cheaper and easier to rent a car... Rooms are dated and tattered, and four floor reno is tacky at best , though you will be charged a premium rate for the same un-renovated crap room two floors blow... honestly I would never stay there again...

The Novotel Queenstown Lakeside (also known as Novotel Gardens) is one of the more attractive, full-featured hotels in Queenstown's lively CBD, providing not only comprehensive facilities to the ski traveller, but residing within walking distance of Queenstown's dining, shopping and night spots. Perhaps most evident upon arrival is that the Novotel has the hardest-working, yet welcoming concierge in Queenstown during the busy ski season - even amidst the chaos of storing ski gear and churning through a six-deep queue of tired skiiers, the boys at the Information desk still have the moxie to direct you to a great local cafe and smile while they're at it. Now, that's service!

Hanging out at the Information desk aside, the standard rooms at the Novotel Queenstown Lakeside are sufficiently sized, with two spacious double beds, a clean bathroom with bath/shower and a closet large enough to hold and dry a fashionable assortment of ski attire. The room's heater is powerful enough to turn the space into a veritable sauna if desired, however the ambient temperature of the room is comfortable enough for it to be used rarely.

That said, I did have a slight gripe with the firmness of the "default" pillows on the beds - they were just too compressible to the point of being fairly useless. Perhaps with this in mind, a "pillow menu" was provided on the mantle, however I didn't find this issue to be sufficiently irritating to warrant ordering a new set of pillows from housekeeping.

A second quirk was the water pressure in the shower. It seemed to exist in binary - either off, or in Seinfeld's "elephant shower" mode, shooting water at a velocity capable of stripping paint. After a mad day of skiing, this wasn't entirely a bad thing (given a craving for hot water for the entire ride back from the slopes), however it did catch me off-guard on the first few occasions.

On the nice side, the Novotel's cafe houses two Apple Macs with free Internet access. This was a bittersweet discovery after shelling out $5 NZD for 30mins at their Internet Cafe, using their ageing PC's.

Finally, the Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is very reasonably priced for all the amenities and great service it provides. It is certainly no stranger to the strange demands of the Winter crowds and is efficiently run to make each guest feel at home after a big day at the snow. Highly recommended for leisure travellers and families.

We stayed for a week. Paid $89 NZ through accor website as advantage plus.
Nice hotel. Standard room just looks at courtyard. It your after a romantic getaway then get the lake view. However the extra cost might mean you could go to a better motel.

Location is good. Buses pick up outside for ski fields. Quick walk into the mall of queenstown.

Bad experience with bathroom. Toilette broke every single night we were there. After calling maintenance every day the problem was temporary fixed for 1 use then broken again. Requested change of room. Told wasn't available. Requested any other room. Told we just had to use the lobby toilette. About at 100m walk in the middle of the night. If i wanted to share a bathroom id go to a back packer.

Worse hotel experience ive had to date. Things break but could have been dealt with better by hotel staff. Rude service desk people. Abusive maintenance worker.

Stayed for 2 nights during the winter festival and it was a great location!Near the activities, shops and restaurants. The concierge and the valet did excellent service and were very friendly!Although our room didn't have a lake view we had the views of the mountains.

Location of this place is great, right in the heart of town. Hotel itself is very nice and has just undergone a reno. Had a lakefront king room, which is worth the extra money as the views are amazing.

Only slight problem was we had an adjoining room next to us. The door was somehow unlocked and the people in the next room opened the door and could come into our room if they wanted. Took the hotel about 30 mins to have someone come fix the problem.

Other than that, place was great.

Just came back from NZ and spent 5 days in the Novotel Queenstown. It was a wonderful stay from the minute we arrived. The location is perfect since its right on the lake and walking distance to practically everything. The room that we got had two full size beds so where perfect since we where traveling with children. The concierge was very attentive with all the questions that everyone had (it was the Winter Festival so there were a ton of people). I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone going to Queenstown.
