Property is fine but owners very unfair and definitely not ethical as they charged us for breakfast they advised was included and off-site at Millenium over the road. We were faced if paying an extra NZ$126 over the quoted rate even after Hotel Owner advised us to go for the breakfasts off-site. All my documentation supported the breakfast was included. Property otherwise OK - location and room size are good. Will not bother ever staying there again - I am a regular Queenstown visitor but Hurley's will be given a wide berth - suggest you look else where as the business ethics STINK!

We were touring the South Island as first time visitors from Australia and booked Hurleys through a travel agent that did some of our planning for us.
Upon arrival the chap at reception was quite pleasant and helpful (apparently the son of the owners who were away on a break of their own). He helped us carry our bags to our room which we hadn't requested and was appreciated. Our room was a Premier Studio which was quite spacious and certainly very comfortable for a 4 night stay. There was a small balcony but the views were limited and not very appealing (a glimpse of scenery and a lot of backyards). The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was well set up although the spa could have done with a service as only a few of the jets actually worked properly. Our biggest problem was the heat of the room. The thermostat was set at about 22 degrees with a request that it not be touched or altered. The first night we had to sleep with the external door open (in September, in Queenstown and we don't like the cold!!!) so oppressive was the heat. After we complained we were told that all the heating had been redone (upgraded presumably) and the staff weren't sure that they could do anything. We encouraged them to try and they obviously did as afterwards our room was quite comfortable. Clearly the place is set up for skiers with separate storage areas for their gear. This was of no interest or consequence for us. The gym seemed to be well used (not by us - we were on holiday). The laundry was clean and reasonably priced. If we had wanted to cook, the kitchen facilities and equipment in our room were good but with all the wonderful Queenstown restaurants available why would you cook? It was disappointing there was no internet availability for those of us who weren't carrying our own laptop with wireless capability. Carparking was designed under Rafferty's rules and would no doubt be a problem at busy times. For those with a modicum of fitness the town centre was only a 10 minute downhill walk away. This of course meant it was about a 15 minute uphill walk back which was very good for aerobic exercise.
All in all not the most wonderful place we have stayed but pleasant, comfortable and clean.

We weren't sure if we got a small room as we had booked through loyalty points - but it was just a bed, 2 chairs and a very small table - no drawers, lounge or decent cupboard.
We stayed for 5 nights, the room was very clean, part view of the mountain, the spa was also pretty tiny - but still appreciated after a day on the slopes.
Don't plan to cook, there's was one frying pan big enough to cook 2 eggs and thats it - but the food in Queenstown is so fantastic, and reasonable - there is no need.
The stroll into town takes about 5 minutes - we were pretty lazy and took taxis up the hill home after dinner and drinks each night - only $5

I stayed here last August/September with my partner and her mum while we were on a 2 week holiday driving from Christchurch and stopping at the towns on the way. We booked this hotel through our travel agent after looking at the hotel on the internet. It looked really nice and accommodating. We decided to go all out and spend a fair amount of money on a Hurley’s in Queenstown as we were spending 6 nights there. It was the most expensive hotel we had paid for. We asked for a nice view of the lake as the internet showed it had nice views of the lake.
Once we arrived at the hotel it was clearly not what we had expected. Our room that they had given us was on the bottom floor with a view of the busy St. The room had 1 bed and I have no idea what the other thing was (kind of a fold out lounge). Given that we were staying so long at the hotel we decided that one of us could not sleep on a fold out lounge for that long of a period. So we decided to pay more again to upgrade with better sleeping arrangements. After receiving our new set of keys we collected our luggage and had to carry it all up 4 flights of stairs. This did not help our already sore bodies from doing a glacier climb the previous day. The key/card for the new room did not always work first go. Sometimes it would take several attempts for us to get in the room. Once settled into the room we went to check out our new view. It was worse. It overlooked a resident’s back yard who was a horter and it had rubbish everywhere.

The cleanliness of the room was not very good as the spa/bath had someone else hair throughout it. (VERY DISGUSTING) The heating was also terrible especially being winter. We had to have several blankets on the beds as the blankets were also poor quality.

Parking was not so good either. Other than a BOAT taking up a parking spot and a half and another car that never moved (most probably owned by the owner of the hotel) It was first in best serve otherwise u had to park on the street. And if you were lucky enough to get a park, someone would just park you in.

The location was not so good at all. It was far away from town. You could not possibly walk it as it was at the top of a very steep hill.

The reception and cleaning staff we average. Not rude but not very polite. When going to reception I had to ring the bell several times before I would be attended to. The laundry was on the bottom floor so we had to carry all our washing up and down the stairs and use the coin operate machines and then have to keep running down to see if the loads had finished. The door didn’t even lock so anyone could have pinched our clothes.

Overall I would NEVER stay here again. It was the worst hotel I stayed in while visiting NZ

Hurleys has very spaciuos rooms with kitchens.Great place to stay as you can do your own cooking. Easy walk to town and I booked all my tours through the very competent and friendly staff. Rooms are very clean and serviced daily. Thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the spa bath.
