“Good Value - Great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2010

I've just spent a week at Hurleys while skiing in the Queenstown area. The hotel is easy to find from the airport, being just off the main road coming into town. There is some parking at the back of the hotel, but plenty of parking on the adjacent road.

The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful, and were a mine of information about Queenstown itself. If you are skiing, there is a drying room located adjacent to the rear car parking area - with racks for boots and skis. The hotel also has an Internet Kiosk (which I did not try) and wireless internet access through a third party provider, and a small gym/fitness room.

We were pleased with our room, which was located at the back of the hotel (view of Bob's Peak) away from the main road. Being away from the road, it was very quiet. It was warm (important for the winter period in Queenstown), and as we had friends staying with us, the connecting door to the room next door was useful. The rooms are reasonably well appointed, with a little kitchen, including hob, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. There were enough plates, k+f+s, cups etc for two people. The bathrooms have underfloor heating (I think - they are warm!), and come with a spa bath and shower over the bath. The room also had a plasma TV with access to a number of channels, including some Sky Sports channels.

The hotel is situated about 10 mins walk from the centre of Queenstown. Note that there is a steep hill to be negotiated when walking back from the town centre.

All in all - good value (given we stayed at the height of the ski season in Queenstown) and a great location.

This place was very clean and all the receptionists were very friendly. Room comes with spa bath and kitchen so you can relax and cook dinner, however, it is much smaller than the creative photography would have you expect (More fool us!). Whilst 160NDZ does seem a little steep for what we got it was peak season and queenstown accomodation was all very expensive.
Place included a gym, internet facilities, free tour booking and even a steam room. There is parking behind the motel, however, if you are in a campervan or large vehicle i would reccommend parking on the street where it is much easier to maneuvar.

About a 5-10 minute walk into town which isnt too bad and stunning views everywhere.

We arrived in Queenstown from Auckland to stay only for a day before traveling the whole of the South Island. As two early 30-somethings, we are no longer part of the age group who relishes $20.00/night stays in hostel-like structures with shared bathrooms and six of our new best friends sleeping in bunks around us. We are also not yet part of the demographic who can drop a couple hundred a night on a poshy room. So, the Hurleys meet both our privacy needs and pricepoint.

The hotel suffered a series of mixed reviews on this site and I for one cannot tell you why. In addition to featuring a full kitchen and deck, the room was modernly furnished and appointed. It also had a bathtub (which is not common among NZ properties) with jacuzzi jets. Kept by a traditional in-keeper who offered us milk for our coffee or tea, we were able to park our car for free and walked only three blocks before hitting the whole of Queenstown. Charges for internet and phone calls apply, even if the call is local, which is not something American travelers fully grasp. However, the internet is reliable.

HIGHPOINT: The rooms are spacious, clean, and located just close/far enough to downtown Queenstown to recommend.

CONFUSING: No one tells you that between May and August getting in and out of Queenstown (which sits in the middle of several mountain ranges) via airplane is a bit of a crapshoot. On our last day in the South Island departing from Queenstown, we were fully prepared to return to this property if the planes were not flying, which they didn't to any other destination except Auckland until 2:30p.m.

Hotel is located a short walk away from downtown Queenstown and its great restaurants and shops. Clean, modern rooms. Definitely would recommend to a friend.

Great room with king size bed and two floor to ceiling windows looking at two views of the Remarkable Mountains. King size bed that was just right in terms of texture. staff was very helpful with booking and advice. It was five minutes downhill and ten minutes up hill to town.

This is a well located, very comfortable and reasonably priced motel - 5 mins walk down into town which is far enough that it's quiet at night (Queenstown itself is very noisy!)
My boyfriend and I stayed for 2 weeks and found that the room was big enough, and had everything we needed for that length of time. The kitchenette was adequate to do some basic cooking (fridge, 2 hobs, microwave, toaster, kettle). The motel has it's own sauna/small gym, a store room for snowboards/skis and washing facilities.
I would recommend Hurleys to people who are on a budget but still want to stay somewhere nicer than a hostel.

We loved this hotel! They changed their offer when we arrived to not include continental breakfast with the (low) rate offered but it was still a great value for the money. The room was spacious and with lots of cabinet/storage space and the place is clean and well maintained. The bed was a bit hard though but that is a nit-pick based on the rest of our great experience in this fantastic hotel. The washer/dryer performed as they should and parking is a bit limited but was not an issue during our stay. It's a nice 5 to 10-minute downhill walk to central Queenstown. This city and the surrounding area is a must-see and must-do. Great food, great activities and great people. Put it on your bucket list and stay at Hurley's while you are here. You can't go wrong!
