“Comfort and a Great View”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2008

Queenstown is an amazing place to visit, and Coronet View was an amazing place to stay. The location above the centre of Queenstown gave panoramic views, but was only a 10 minute walk or so into town (slightly longer coming back uphill). Our rooms were really comfortable, with luxurious beds, robes, heated towel rails, and many other little touches that make a difference. The guest lounge and dining room was large and comfortable and with more of those panoramic views. Neil was our attentive host and served a filling breakfast each day. Tea and coffee was freely available all day. Visits to the numerous attractions around Queenstown could be booked through Neil, who offered plenty of helpful advice on what to do. Outside, there is a small swimming pool and hot tub to relax in after a busy day.A nice touch was that the website had plans of all the rooms and you could select which room to book.

  • Liked — Comfortable rooms and a great view
  • Disliked — walking back uphill, but you can take a taxi!

We stayed there at the start of the ski season and were very unhappy that we arrived while renovations were going on, something we had not been warned was to be the case. The oven didn't work and we had to amass a small mountain of $2 coins to operate the computer, the washer and the drier. After spending in excess of $2,000 for our stay there, I felt this was really cheap and irritating.

We were also disappointed to find that the ski fields are totally car dependent - when the road shuts so do the ski fields!! Queenstown and its surrounding farming community should think seriously about gondolas to the ski fields to remove this silly dependency on buses and cars.

  • Liked — the views
  • Disliked — the fact that there were renovations (drills, paint smells, trucks parked outside our font door!!!) and we weren't told about them in advance

Queenstown appears to becoming very touristy, and this motel offers a decent rate. The room was small, the walls were thin, and breakfast was average, at best. Beautiful view. Half-a-mile outside of town. Great cat.
