Larch Hill Homestay Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #9 of 44 Queenstown B&B and Inns
Reviewed 19 August 2013 via mobile

Myself and a friend had a twin studio for 2 nights.

Pros:
-Polite and helpful owners - Lesley and Chris
-Welcome tea or coffee and Louise cake on arrival
-Free WiFi - password provided
-Great views of the mountains and over Lake Wakatipu.
-Our studio was accessed via wooden steps from the top of the main driveway off Larch Hill Place. It contained a kitchenette (cooker/hob, sink, storage with plates, bowls, glasses, cutlery, kettle, fridge, microwave etc), 2x umbrellas, dining table & 4 chairs, shelf unit containing books & magazines, floor lamp, 2x 2-seater sofas, low glass table, sheepskin rug, 1x suitcase stand, clock-radio, twin beds with twin bedside tables & lamps. Wall-mounted Uniden widescreen TV. Wall-mounted 'heat pump' air con/heater unit with remote control. En suite shower with hairdryer, iron/ironing board, washing machine. Separate toilet. Adjoining door (locked).
-Excellent breakfast - good spread of cereals, breads, yoghurt with fruit, toast plus an omelette/scrambled eggs. Tea or coffee.

Cons:
-Steep main driveway on lake facing (Larch Hill Place) side, but it's located on a hillside.
-More storage for clothing would be useful.

Notes:
-Its a 15 minute drive to Queenstown from the B&B.
-It took us 50 minutes to walk to Queenstown from the B&B, although its a scenic route. Cross the 6A (be careful, fast traffic), follow the roadside footpath and turn off left for the Frankton Track at 'The Rees' hotel & apartments.
-There's a No.11 bus as well.

Many thanks for your kind comments about us and our breakfasts, and for taking the time to upload such a comprehensive review for TripAdvisor readers (via mobile, according to the review - all the more impressive! ) Our Twin Studio provides a more spacious and comfortable option for those wanting twin beds, and costs not much more than our small Twin Room. We are very grateful to you for pointing out the need for more clothing storage in the Studio, and we are taking steps to address that right now.

Although it takes us 40 minutes to walk along the lakeside trail into the centre of town, we can understand how it might take slightly longer if you stop to take photographs and admire the glorious views. However, we cannot understand how it could possible take 15 minutes to drive the 3kms into the town centre, unless perhaps you were caught behind traffic leaving the skifields at the end of the day (it normally takes us 3 minutes).

We have two street entrances – we try to have guests park as conveniently as possible to their rooms, but if guests are uncomfortable driving up our lower driveway (closest for half of our rooms), we do have other parking options available.

Best wishes.

Lesley and Chris

Everything was the highest quality from the breakfast to coffee to tea to the beds and electric blankets and the cleanliness. We had a wonderful time. Chris & Lesley made our stay a memorable one. The mountainside views of Lake Wakitapu and the mountains are spectacular. We stayed four days and because it snowed we were able to spend an extra day thanks to te flexibility of our hosts. The snow made an even more beautiful view of the mountains.
Chris & Lesley are great hosts and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again in the future.
New Zealand is a wonderful place and we can't wait to come back.

I keep coming back not just because of the magnificent scenery and incredible things to do but mostly because of the great hospitality shown by Chris & Lesley. You can't help but feel, this is "home away from home" I absolutely loved breakfast with freshly baked bread every morning, pastries, eggs, a good hot cuppa of tea or coffee. A wonderful glass of wine by the fire in the evening and great cabaret performances by Chris. Don't think I have ever laughed so much. The accommodation was first class, rooms very clean, warm and cozy. Spectacular, panoramic views of Lake Wakatipitu. Definitely the place to stay in Queenstown. Can't wait to go back next year. Thank you Chris and Lesley for making my stay so memorable and so welcoming.
I'll definitely see you next year.

Many thanks to Lesley and Chris for making my stay in Queenstown so enjoyable. I did not have a booking but just showed up one evening at this B & B that is sightly away from the town center in a residential area. They were were kind to accommodate me in what was a fully serviced studio apartment with laundry, kitchen, dining table, sofa and a couple of beds. It had wonderful views of the lake and Lesley served a nice hot breakfast besides keeping everything very clean in my room through my three nights there. I even had my own parking spot within their compound.

I have been visiting Queenstown every year for the past 8 years and I always stay at Larch Hill Bed and Breakfast. The view from every room including the deck and the lounge is without a a doubt, a million dollar view. The hosts, Lesley and Chris Marlow, provide a phenominal cooked breakfast, extremely clean and comfortable rooms, a helping hand with every facet from booking activities to taking us all over Queenstown and most importantly, humor and incredible hospitality. I will return again next year to enjoy another amazing week in Queenstown at Larch Hill Bed and Breakfast.

Room Tip: Be prepared to be entertained by these amazing hosts, Lesley and Chris Marlow.

We booked the apartment/suite which was comprehensively equipped, spacious, clean and very comfortable, with views of Lake Wakatipu and the mountains behind.

On arrival, we were met by Chris and Lesley, Chris had our cases out of the car and in the apartment before we could move and Lesley treated us to a welcome cuppa and biscuits.

The breakfasts were amazing, and Lesley always asked if we would like eggs, which were prepared in a different way each morning.

At the time of our booking, Lesley offered to organise trips/restaurants etc in advance of our arrival, which was very helpful and ensured we were not disappointed - in particular, the 'Dart River Wilderness Safari' and the 'Skyline Restaurant' are very popular and not to be missed.

There is so much to see and do in and around Queenstown, and there can be no better place to stay than Larch Hill Homestay B & B.

This B&B was a welcome relief after a long drive from Christchurch. We stayed 2 nights and didn't have time to enjoy most of what Queenstown had to offer because we took the bus tour and cruise to Milford Sound...which takes up 12 hours of the day and had to leave the next day. The view from our room was beautiful. We had a full view of the lake and mountains. Internet access was free and uninterrupted. Breakfast was wonderful: there were many options available to choose, all delicious and fresh homecooked/baked goods.. We had a very early morning pick up for the Milford Cruise, so we had breakfast at 6:45am. Leslie and Chris were very accommodating with the time as they are used to guests going to the cruise. Our room was very comfy and had a little refrigerator in the closet. Our bathroom was across the hall, even though it was our own bathroom. I believe other rooms had their own bathrooms. The only thing I would have changed is to ask for a room w/ my own bathroom so I wouldn't have to walk across the hall. Location is away from the heavy tourist area just a few minutes drive. You can enjoy the food/shopping by the wharf and return to quiet back in the B&B. All in all, we had a lovely time with charming hosts. I would return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a private bathroom.
