My partner and I dined here during Jan'14 as part of our road trip through South Island.
The restaurant is a mass buffet dining experience so don't expect intimacy. However, do not let that detract from the reason why most choose to eat here... its the ride to the top and view! It's pretty awesome.
The seating plan is fine wherever you sit. I generally got the feeling the window seats were booked for big groups.
When booking you will allocated a dining slot, so it is very much 'in and out'. Although that doesn't stop you spending a good couple of hours around the top of the skyline viewing platform, luge, and the various shops.
If you are in Queenstown you should defiantly do this, if not for the food but the view back Queenstown and reflect to allow you to reflect on the time spent in Queenstown.
