My husband and I recently stayed in an Upstairs Studio room at Alpine View Motel in Te Anau. We loved it there. Owner/Manager Illeana was so friendly and helpful. The Studio was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. Everything we needed had been provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights there. Would definitely recommend it to other travellers.

Room Tip: We had Room #10 but I would think all rooms would be excellent.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Alpine View Motel in Te Anau and Illeana really looked after us. She provided us with a great room, a very clean room, and at a great rate. Illeana also provided us with lots of information on attractions in the area, where to eat and what to do. While in Te Anau we were planning a trip to Milford Sound; however, due to an avalanche on the road to Milford Sound all tours had been cancelled. Illeana then went to work finding out if we could obtain tickets on a tour of Doubtful Sound; however, we went to bed believing that we would miss out. Bright and early the next morning Illeana was knocking on our door to say that she had secured two tickets if we were still interested. We found out at the end of the day that the tour operator hadn't called Alpine View, Illeana had been chasing them on our behalf, the service was more than we expected. As for the tour, it was absolutely fantastic and we had a great day, great photos, the day could not have been better. We really have Illeana to thank for such a great stay, the tour tickets, we would have been so disappointed if we had travelled so far and not been able to go to at least one of the 'Sounds'. In fact Doubtful Sound was a highlight of our two week tour of the south island, so if you find yourself at the Alpine View, spend the money and take in a tour of Doubtful Sound, you won't be disappointed.

Booked this room via lastminute.com for around the $80 mark (give or take).
Good sized apartment with lounge and kitchen then separate main bedroom and separate bathroom. Tv is in the lounge so you cant watch from bed.
Shower was hot and bathroom clean.
We were given a portable heater to add to the room heating. We kept this on in the main bedroom with the door closed and were glad we did - the main heating system automatically turns off during the night and it was really cold! The extra heater helped keep the bedroom warm though. Early morning, the main heating came back on and we nearly suffocated with the heat! LOL!
Kitchen had everything we needed but we dialled a pizza and had it delivered.
A good sized apartment with plenty of space in the main bedroom for luggage.

Tip: Make sure you do the Glow Worm Cave Tour. It's a real experience and well worth it. If you are claustophobic or scared of the dark however, best not go. The cave is really dark with the lights out! Cost was approx $75 per adult. Best viewing is in Summer however we went in Winter and still saw hundreds of glow worms.

Room Tip: Ask about the heating during the winter - check to see if the main heating system turns off during t...

We came into Te Anau as a base to visit Milford Sound. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful as to local attractions and local restaurants. Our room was a one-bedroom unit with a separate loung/dining area and kitchen. There was a spare bed in the lounge area which would be great for a family or two couples travelling together. Free internet was available. A guest laundry was available. The tariff was reasonably priced and although not right on the lake front, it was only one street back and therefore only a two minute walk.

We had a room upstairs in the main building which gave us a good view across the very pretty garden and onwards down towards the lake. The room itself was spacious, clean and comfortable and the decor pleasant. The owners were helpful & friendly. The laundry room was very useful when you have been travelling for a couple of weeks. Te Anau is a lovely town with plenty of restaurants, small shops & supermarkets. We used it as a base when we visited Milford Sound. An enjoyable stay.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Alpine Motel. Tony made us very welcome and it was a good base in Te Anau as we travelled up through the South Island. The room was very comfortable and well equipped with a view over the garden and a little patio. Very good value for money also. Def would recommend,

The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful.
For kids it's great, they have a play area at the back which our 4yo really enjoyed.
My main criticism is the view, there is none.
I would definitely recommend staying lakeside in Te Anau.
For some reason I thought we had booked a lakeside motel but I was wrong, my fault, not theirs.
The rooms are basic, a little dated, and quite small but useable.
Very clean and all the facilities you could need. Again, would like to see a white net as well as curtain to allow light to come in but not peering eyes - this is a recommendation for many Motels we stayed in this holiday.
Recommended? Yes, but not if you want to see the lake from your room.

Room Tip: Do you want Lake? If yes, go elsewhere, you are one block away from the lake.
